Changed fuel filter. Wrong way?

as u can see. its in the oppsite direction. Is this bad? do i have to change it back to the regular position? After he installed it i drove it for an hour or so.. nothing seems wrong. any guesses?

sorry to break it to you but thats not the fuel filter...
the fuel filter is on the firewall under and around the battery... the filter you did change is aftermarket..all it dose is keep the oil from the valve cover out of the intake pipes, there is really no need to change it...

uhh thats not ur fuel filter thats a breather filter or at least I think so. not sure it makes a difference though.

phew.. ok thanks guys. by the way i switched it back to the regular position. I do have to get under the car to actually change the fuel filter right? dammit.. lol

yes battery has to be reamoved then use an impact gun to remove the top banjo fitting. next get under the car ,get a line wrench ,and a regular wrench..un do the botton fitting , take the filter out of the brackets that mount it to the fire wall..do it all in reverse order with the new filter..and your done...yes i know from experience ,that its a bitch to do....

I found it easier to go in from the top to change the fuel filter.

This thread made me laugh. How could that be a fuel filter, considering no fuel goes to it or gets filtered? It's not connected to the fuel line, injectors, fuel rail.. etc. Just to the valve cover which is oil.

Well im still young so i dont know shit about my car (LOL) yeah i went into Kragens and saw the filter thingy on "Fuel Filter" catagory so i decided to at least change the old dirty 1. sorry for my retardednes haha. The guy in Kragen was pretty cool, he told me that my car shouldnt need any engine rebuild til 150-160k miles since its a dsm. i was like wtf? he told me to only change the oil w/ M0bile 1 5w-30 since its for cars like mines.

By the way do any of you guys know how to change that intake air filter? lol.. when i looked at it was like wtf.. how do i remove this.. but then again my dad said he gon change it next month even though the 1 i have now is pretty wet and dirty. i use a Air duster can to blow off the stuff stuck in the filter but i dont think thats good enough. Any of u know the steps to remove that dam thingy? i know its gon be easy but i would like to know before experienceing it. thanks again.

The only hard thing about replacing the air filter is removing the top of the box... but if you can SEE that the filter is dirty you already have it off. Lift the filter out and put a new one in. There are 4 clips on the box top.

In the picture i posted above shows my intake filter without the box covering it.. so i can just lift it off without unscrewing anything? dam that sounds easy haha. My friend said to replace the filter with a wierd oval shaped looking 1 taht has many colors to pic from. he said that will filter more dirt and looks better. my opinion is that it looks too riceish.... =\

The air filter you have is a reusable aftermarket one. There is no need to dispose of it. You just need to clean it out. Remove the intake filter by unscrewing the worm clamp holding it to the adapter. You can see the top of the screw between the filter and the overflow for the antifreeze. You don't need to unscrew it all the way, just enough to allow the filter to slide off. Next pull off the filter. You want to pull the filter towards the passenger side fender panel. Next, go to the auto parts store and pick up a K & N filter cleaning kit (It should come with cleaner and a can of re-oiler). Read the directions and clean away!!! Stick the filter back on and you are all set. Just make sure you do this before you go to bed, because you actually wash the filter and need to give it time to dry before you oil it. I think you should do this yourself instead of having your dad do it for you. This is easy maintence and will put you on the right track to learning other things. Doing things like this is where most of us started. Enjoy!

Another important point is that you always want to rinse the dirt from the INSIDE. Dont run water through it from the outside, you'll be pushing all that dirt "in." I use the big sink in the basement for this, run some warm water all over the inside of the filter until it rinses clean... Only clean every 20k miles or so, or when it really needs it. Cleaning too often will damage the filter (the cleaner is caustic) and the dirt itself provides more filtration than you get with a completely cleaned element. ;) So don't go nuts and do it every week.

lol ok now i know how to change the air filter. Is it bad to remove the filter tonite and leave the car without the filter on the whole nite? i leave the car outside since my sis and mom have the garage for thier toyotas.. i was hoping to do it tonite because i do alota driving during the day.

it perfectly fine to have the filter off all night..just as long no one goes out for a dukes of hazards midnight ride, then you will be sucking dirt in (= bad) ...but if the car is parked all night sure go ahead...moving it in and out of driveways is fine to ,just as long as you dont go far...

Whoa... it was freaking greasy... what was that? i thought it was water inside my filter.. but no? i used a air can to blow off all the dirt and damm my whole shirt got dirt all over it. Im not gonna replace it til jan though. when i replace it do the new filters come pre-greased ? or do i have to put some wierd greasy stuff on it after i buy it?

Its an oil, and filters come preoiled. K%N does at least.

can any1 tell me if this is a 1g bov or a 2g bov? i know the 1g bov is better than the 2g but i dont know the difference between the looks. the owner never told me he changed or stayed w/ the bov.
