Hey whats up everyone, I was wondering if anyone here who is really good fiberglassing and carbonfiber could tell me how I can do this to my car:

Are you doing this for wieght reasons or for looks , because if it is for looks there is a much much easier way to get the same result on a fiberglass dash ... go to my website and look at the photos of the interior that is on there it took first place at a nopi show and i assure it does not look "cheesy" in anyway www.chopshopcustomsnyc.com/services.htm i also can give you tips for molding in pods and what not but before i go through the whole process of giving you instructions let me know if its just for looks...or for wieght?

This link is pretty much what it looks like stock and I want it to look better. to tell you the truth Im really going after looks and alittle bit of performance, but mostly LOOKS and I this this looks awesome.

This link is pretty much what it looks like stock and I want it to look better. to tell you the truth Im really going after looks and alittle bit of performance, but mostly LOOKS and I this this looks awesome.


ok well first thing you need to do is disconnect the battery (you dont want your airbag popping) next you need to remove any panels you want to smooth out and paint.
after you have removed the parts take some 80 grit sandpaper and rough up the dash and other panels its going to look like its making little timy hairs or freys but thats ok
if you want to mold in anything special like a ps2 or guage pods, go out and buy yourself a cut off wheel or a dremel set
then simply cut out where you want the pods installed and using fiberglass mat and resin mold in the pods
sand down the fiberglass with 40 grit sandpaper then use a good quality body filler and 80 grit then 180 grit to finish the product smoooth .make sure every part of that panel has been sanded otherwise over time the paint will peel off i can not stress how important that is .
then start priming
once you sanded it all down go to your local auto body shop supplier and buy some high build primer(example: ppg k36 primer surfacer) spray 4 or 5 coats on
again it will look like it has little hairs on it but again its still ok
once the primer has dried sand it down with 180 grit sand paper this will take out most of the texture
then prime it again with 4 or 5 coats of high build primer
once dry sand with 220 grit sandpaper
then prime it again ...4 or 5 coats of high build primer
once its dry sand it with 320 grit sandpaper
if there is still texture repeat the last process untill it is gone
but by this time the texture should be gone
finally go buy some good quality paint spray it then clearcoat it
and for some really high quality show car shine , sand down the clearcoat after it dries with 1000 grit sandpaper and put on 2 more coats of clear , then wetsand and buff ....and you will have yourself one of the nicest interiors around
be creative and dont be afraid to make mistakes...it will happen the trick is knowing that you can fix the mistakes

That carbon fiber looks like a carbon fiber overlay trim similer to B & I's dash trim overlays and not like it's been carbon fiber wrapped.

Hey one quick Q about the wetsanding. You want to wetsand it after the clear coat with 1000 grit??? Won't that take off the shine? I'm pretty sure your certain but can you go into more detail about that?

after wetsanding, you buff it out with finishing compound to restore shine
