Switching Factory Radios...

A quick question... My 05 Silverado has everything...BUT the 6 disc in dash cd player (Mine has single CD and cassette). My parents have an 05 Silverado as well but there's has the 6 disc. If I switch these, will it work? The reason I ask is because i THINK I remember reading that the theftloc learns the VIN number of the vehicle and will only work in that vehicle. I might be wrong. Thanks for any help!!!

I think theftloc still has to be enabled to be a problem. I would check with the parts department at the dealer first though. In theory you could end up locking both radios.

unless it's different from '01 to '05, it should work. I sold my stock radio/cd head to a buddy who also had an '01 silverado but had the tape deck. It worked fine in his.

Yeah, the swap should work fine. The only reason theftloc would be a problem, is if it is activated.
Even if you end up locking up a radio, there are ways to unlock it. As long as the radio is not hot, a good GM dealer will unlock a radio for you, there just is a procedure that they have to follow to make sure that it's on the up and up.

the factory radio does read the vin number but a dealer can unlock the radio usually for about $60.
