car cuts off

Here's my situation. I was told that I need to get my brake pads replaced because they have been sqeaking for a little bit now. Well yesterday I went to go drive my son to his band concert and my brake light and ABS lights came on, but my brake light was blinking and I could hear a clicking noise under the hood. Then the car cut off. If I would wait a little bit it would start again but would do the same thing. Any suggestions? I am a single mother of 3 so I have I do some of the work on my car myself. Please help!!

When it cuts off there is no power what so ever. It's like a kill switch was sensored.
