Posts made here don't count towards your post count

Hello everyone,
After some deliberation with our team, we have decided to take this action so people will not get their post count up 'unfairly' by posting "stuff" in the off topic, most of the posts are 1 or 2 lines long, some just a word. We believe this will also encourage people to post out side the off topic forum which will only do good to our community.
Regards,
Igor
Scroll down and read my 3rd post. The decision has been reversed.

That is the worst idea I have ever heard. You put it in the most popular section. That will force off topics in other forums, and for me, other web pages. A word long is a post. Sometimes it's neccesary. Like when comparing two things. Bugatti or XJ220? XJ220!! That's all that needs to be written. Who really cares if someone has 45,000 posts even if they are a word long? It's just a number under your name.

Will they still count towards the post total for the site?

I think it was a great idea. It will probably eliminate "post whores" who post nonsense things, and drag them on for evere.

Why oh why oh why do people care so much about achieving a high post count? It doesn't do anything.

Who care's about the post count.
Shouldn't we all be here because we enjoy it ?
Are some of us that worried about who has what under there name that we worry about who has more posts then someone else.
We should be more worried about the people that ask 1-2 questions, get there answer and never come back...have a look and see how many there are !!
As for the so called post whore's....If they are only posting 1-2 lines....so what, at least they are here supporting your site.
Why bother putting it (post numbers) under there name....do away with it if it's such a problem.
Thats my 2 cents worth
:D :D :D

Well, who really cares if a person has 10 posts if he has made 100 1 line posts and 10 normal posts?
If you don't care what # of posts people have I do not see why you think it's "the worst idea you have ever heard"....

After some more deliberation, we have decided to reverse our decision :p
The decision i've made solved one problem but created more problems, thus the Off topic forum is now the old off topic forum :D
So the posts made here now do count towards your post count, just like in any other forum.
But please, keep the # of pointless posts you post under control, this only trashes the forum :)

Pointless posts? hmmmm...... After much deliberation, I have concluded that all posts are pointless to somebody. Therefore, no posts should ever go to a count and should be ignored as though they didnt exist. Remember, some people only live to see their numbers go up - well at least until their number is up. Dont deprive them of their simple pleasures.

Are we worried about bandwidth and server space, or some status symbol? We're all nerds here anyway... :flash:

As others have stated, what is the problem with next to useless posts. If it starts to become a major problem, then enact the rule but, Your Post Count is just a number and if you take a number that seriously, you have issues. I think that the high posters are good for AF. It says we have regulars and that these people are dedicated. It does take a long, long time to post 800, 900, 1000 times. That shows we have people here.

I am worried that those of us who like to make tongue in cheek comments or be a smart ass – will get blamed for “useless” posts. As anyone can tell, I am not a post whore. However, I will make a comment when I feel one is warranted. Hence my wise ass (+1 to me!!!) comment.
By the way – now its +2!! Will this madness never end!

You have to remember that this is a message board..and that we should not care how many posts are needed. I know I have in the past but have really shied away from that. But we shouldn't force the members to post epics..its not my best quality to tell you the truth! I am the type of thinker that wraps up thoughts within 1 or 2 thorough sentences. So writing long paragraphs is extremely long, tiring, boring, and whatever else you wanna say it probably is.

Don't worry peeps. The rule has been discontinued, so your posts here will count to your overall counts.

Thank Tom Birkin! :p
Over at my other forum (CF) the problem isn't really there b/c we don't have as much traffic as you guys, so BS is no problem (anymore:rolleyes: ). I like the setup of this board, even though very confusing, you always have something to post.

Those "game" posts were the biggest "pointless post" threads...perhaps we should have a separate "Game posts" forum under Coffee Break. This forum would have all the "Questions", "A & Q", etc. in it, and posts there would not count. That way "pointless" game posts wouldn't count, and it would allow serious posts made in Completely Off-topic to count.
Does that make any sense at all?

I just gave my opinion in the mod forum. I'll post it here:
Now theres an idea...
Although, I kinda like those topics to just be among the other OT topics. I just browse that forum and the 'game' topics are just there to *easily add a quick reply to. Giving them their own forum would kinda take away the casualness of it.
*Note: It is not laziness - think about how you might give your opinion on an online poll if you see it while browsing. But would you go and seek out a poll? I don't think so. I think these topics work like that.
Also, I know that I never even think about how my post count is effected.
But for people who do, maybe we could have a system of grading for posts based on their content? Its not something that could be done automatically - I guess people would have to vote if they think someone had made an informative of helpful contribution. This could give a reward - maybe in extra posts or some kind of tally under a persons screen name.
This idea just came to me so I haven't thought it thru.

This whole counting things makes me shake my head. If they are such a problem turn them off. Good grief, unless the post count is going to go so high that the counter cant handle it - Who cares what it is? So what if MYCOOLHANDLE has fifty billion two-hundred thirty-three million posts.
If you feel that your posts are somehow better then others via content or via lines of text, I am sorry you feel the need to display a superiority based on knowing more adverbs and adjectives. Or, could it be, that some of you have lots of time to spend here?
Every other board has gone through the same thing with post counts. Most moderators realize eventually that its just a number and let the subject drop and never worry about it again.
My $.02
