90 v6 sr5, 155k miles; recently both the battery light and the ATF Warning Light came on at the same time. I pulled over and read the manual, which says the fluid is overheating and to shift into park and let it cool down. I did and it went out. Shortly thereafter it came on again but I was able to drive it home.
The last couple morning have been 38 degrees; I started the car and again both the ATF Warning Light and the Battery light came on again. Thus I know it is not is not because it is overheating. I checked the ATF level and it appears full.
I drove the car with the light on and it went out after a bit; a few minutes later it came on again.
Any suggestions as to what is wrong.

Try changing ATF fluid. It could be old which would effect the cooling capabilities. Just a suggestion. I don't know why it would come on in 38 degree weather. Good luck.

I bet it's your alternator. Have it checked.
