Bose stereo cuts off

I've had the car for 3 years and have no problems up until now. Right now when I get into my car my stereo system wont turn on, and then suddenly while after driving down the road for a while i press the power button and it turns on. I have a habit of not turnin the radio off before I turn the car off so I started doing that and it started working properly again. Today I did the same as usual, made sure it was off, got in the car and all of a sudden everything stops playing. It just cuts off suddenly. Now im thinking its the weather, (it has been very cold here as of lately), i just got the battery changed about a month ago, or a lose wire or something. Any ideas will be appreciated and any info to help me understand how to take the radio out (I haven't looked yet) would be helpful. Thank you much guys.

by the way, when i can't turn it off, all the lights on the stereo lighting the lights up are on.

man that sucks, just drop by a car stereo shop and hit them up for some trouble shooting ideas.

I had the exact same problem. Except mine hasn't turned back on again in over a month. Did you ever resolve the problem? If so can you let us know what you did? I am sure it is something simple, but we don't want to mess with it without knowing what we are doing. Thanks-Danielle

it's a known problem in maxima's. bose stereo sucks ass and clarion won't do shit to help you. when mine died in my 95 i replaced with a kenwood 4020 double din stereo, which was better than stock anyway. in my 2k2 maxima it hapened and i sent the head unit to clarion for repair. they chraged me $250 and the stereo is cutting out again about 3 months later. just get a new aftermarket deck and a line output convertor to wire it in.

Our local car stereo place said they would put a new stereo in but they would charge us $115 for a wire harness and two hours labor (their estimate) plus the cost of the stereo itself. Does this seem like the right price? Did you do yours yourself? We already have the stereo unit out of the car. I don't understand what the two hours will be for. They said even if we did replace it with an aftermarket unit the sound would be horrible compared to what we are used to. LMK.

$115 for everything final cost? that sounds pretty fair. i replaced my stereo myself and it took me a pretty long time but i kinda learned as i was doing it, i hadn't ever done a stereo before.
are they replacing your wiring harness or are they wiring in a convertor? i bought this thing that converted the stereo's signal to be compatible with the bose speakers so you can use an aftermarket head unit without the sound being degraded. i thought the sound was better because the new stereo had more options for tuning the audio to my preference instead of the 2 little knobs on the factory deck.
