Headlight Sensor

Hello,
I'm new to the Grand Prix forum and wanted to see if anyone new the answer to this question. I have a 2000 GP which came stock with daytime headlights which I didn't like so I found out how to pull the plug next to the sterring colum to solve that problem. My question lies with the sensor that automaticlly turns my headlights on at dusk when I would prefer to run just my fog lights until it gets dark. Does anyone (if it can be done) know how to disconnect that sensor?

Thank you for the info regarding the Daytime Running Lights. I acually disconnected those a few months ago. The problem I'm having, is the headlights turn themselves on automatically when it gets dark outside when I would prefer to run my fog lights only. The headlights are off all day until dark. How do I stop them from coming by themselves at dark without me turning them on?

if you had an 01 or 02 i think its available but since you have an 00 this is all i found

GM is talking about removing the wire from the sensor in dash. I have never tried that, I like the lights to come on when it gets dark.
You could wire a switch to the sensor and turn it off. That way you still have it in line if you ever want it.
May want to get with Big-L, Cass or GTPDAD. Big-L because he can find anything. Cass, because he more then likely has tried it. And DAD because he has the information at hand from GM.

short the sensor wires on the light sensor and the headlights will stay off, however thats one of the tightest features so I suggest rather than disabling it, just drill the hole bigger so the sensor takes longer to trip...

My weakness while fixing up my car is anything that requires me to rewire something so I don't want to do anything that's going to damage it. Out of all the suggestions I've received yours regarding the shorting out of the wire or drilling the hole bigger sounds like the easiest. Can you tell me briefly where it is and how to do it?

hey guys i have a 97 and all i did was pull the drl fuse and now the auto headlights dont come on.u have to use the headlight switch all time.ha ha

There is most likely a much easier way to turn on only your foglights than any of this. With my 99 gt, all I have to do is turn the manual headlight knob halfway between the "parking light" position and "headlight" position. There's no notch in the knob for this position, so it's impossible to do it by feel. Obviously either just wait till it's dark enough to see the headlights or pull up to something reflective so you can see when your lights are on and off. It's easy after you do it once, I use it all the time now.

If you turn on parking lights, fog lights will come on. But as you send, when it's dark headlights will also come on. GM says wire has to be removed. Have never tried it, but that's GM

Just so everyone knows, this post is not about daytime running lights and how to deactivate them. Those of us that want that look have already "pulled the plug." It's about the next step regarding the sensor that automattically turns your OFF headlights ON at dusk and how to deactivate it. Responding to the previous post, who out there has been brave enough to pull that wire? I know somebody's done it and been successful or crashed and burned. You could really help out your fellow GP owners if you would let us know either way.

With all of the comments I received regarding the deactivation of theautomatic headlight sensor, I was glad to see a simple suggestion that sounded to good to be true. I tried what DarkTint suggested about turning the headlight switch between the parking lights and the headlights and that allows you to run just your fog lights with no headlights as long as you want too. It works-----Try it-----Thanks again!!
