gas mileage.

has anybody got as high of gas mileage as 31 miles per gallon? i have a 90 cavalier with TBI 4 cy 2.2 that gets 31 high way. is this right or is it running really lean? just replaced the ECM.

im getting 34 mpg highway with a 1996 2.2..

Just put a 94 cav on the road that hasnt been driven for 2 1/2 years, and I got 22 mpg in the city, on the first tank.

you can't adjust the fuel mixture but if you want to check if it's lean look for a white powderey residue on the tip of your tailepipe this means it's running lean!! Adversely, a lot of black carbon means rich. fyi.

or burning oil.

it would set a code if it was running to rich. it has a o2 sensor.

Burning oil makes blue smoke that's the best indicator. Balck smoke, unburt fuel and white smoke (not from the cold) is Turbo failure. FYI

well the exhaust is color less and doesn't smell unburnen't. i think its fine. i just wanted to see what other people were getting.

Well right now i am gettin big plooms of water vapor... hmmm thats strange what could be causing that...

if its sweet smelling your leaking coolent and could be a cracked or warped head. common thing on the 2.2's. min was replaced 6 yrs ago when it cracked. if theres no sweet smell then its normal and don't worry about it. if you see it when its 80 out or after the cars good and hot then somthing might be leaking but if it goes a way after being warm and doesn't smell sweet and your not looseing coolent then your fine.

White smoke is USUALLY antifreeze, or tranny fluid, or Brake fluid. Blown turbos are usually found before anyone bothers to look at the color of the smoke. The noise gives'em away.
