i have an 89 2.0 si and my left blinker went out so i changed the bulbs but it still didnt work every once and a while it will work for like 5 mins or so then stop working again for a long long time anybody got any ideas?

if it's intermittent i'd do continuity checks for wire integrity/grounding out thru out the entire circuit, and also use a shiteload of contact cleaner to clean the housings that the bulbs sit in.

Does it have a relay for the blinkers?

Also check the contacts. Maybe use some lithium grease. My brake lights did the same thing I cleaned and greased them and have had no problems

yeah i tried new bulbs and the contact cleaner but it didnt do anything. it has relays but i dont know whats what. you can hear the relay or whatever clicking but the lights dont flash

hey well atleast you know it's not
1) your bulbs
2) your relay
3) your manual switch (ie: your signal indicator control inside your car)

I don't have an 89 so i'm not sure where your items are located. But you have to take a multimeter and do tests... it's really the only way.. you have to test between the relay and the housing that the bulb sits in. IF with your indicator on, and with one probe grounded out, while the other is in the housing (on the non-ground side) - you get voltage going ON then OFF then ON then OFF, then the wire is good, if you're not getting the power down there at all, suspect the wiring from the relay to the housing. I've had a few housings on my 92 get "worn" basically the contacts for the bulb get a little bent out of shape - so using a small screwdriver and bending them back inwards - usually allows for a better contact (in fact I did that to one of my rear sidemarkers last night) - also they can become "corroded" so scraping the surface with a screw driver (or even better scotch brite if you can get it in there) does the trick. Finally with your indicator on, just wiggle the bulb - see if it intermittantly comes on with some "wiggling"
