I've heard of many people taking out the driveshaft and converting their car into a FWD, although you take a loss in power doing that.
However... you want your car to be RWD? Why would you wanna do that? Especially if you have a well sought after AWD? Sounds like a new tranny to me. Good luck finding one that bolts up. STAY BEAUTIFUL! STAY AWD!

There is info on this site about this already, its not worth the effort. If it's for a purpose built drag-only car, the right thing to do is to rotate the motor 90 degrees and adapt a 2 speed powerglide transmission. 9" rear ends, customs suspension, custom driveshaft, etc, are common items that go along with this conversion.
To do it in our tranny you need to lock the center diff with a welded diff, spool, welded VC, or VC eliminator. By removing the tcase you have FWD (common for 2WD dyno use), and by removing the front axles (but still blocking the holes in the tranny) you get RWD. But the RWD components were only meant to take a portion of the torque output, not 100% of it. You run a pretty good risk of douching the t-case or rear axles.
Edit> And yeah, AWD is the tits. I can't think of a good reason to switch.
