the slider to adjust the heat on my 92 prelude was really hard to move, but the heat and air both worked good. I pushed the slider too hard trying to loosen it and now it slides good but I have no heat. I was told this is a common problem. Anybody had this problem and fixed it? Any advice or tips would be great. Can a novice fix it himself or should I take to the shop and get screwed?

YES, IF MY GRANDMA CAN DO IT, IM SURE ANY NOVICE CAN DO IT. I TOOK MINE APART BECAUSE MY AC/HEATER WAS NOT WORKING. THE SOLDER ON THE CONTROL PANEL CIRCUIT BOARD WAS CRACKED AND SO I JUST RE-SOLDER THE CIRCUIT BOARD WIRINGS.

The heater cable operates a lever at the right of the trans tunnel next to the fire wall. You can observe it operate by looking under the dash on the passenger side. If it's moving there it is still connected at the controller. The heater valve may be bad.
"ludegirl" nice job on the soldering, mine didn't look that good.
tell me why my 93 auto is bumping in 4th??

Yeah I did the same thing, I haven't gotten around to screwing with it yet. If you could tell me how you actually do fix it, It'd help alot because I have the exact same problem. It's as if the linkage broke while on cold.

Hey joellthomas,
The heater cable is still connected, so it must be the heater valve. How do I go about fixing that.
Remember you are talking to a real novice here. lol
Thanks a bunch.

The heater valve is inside the car. I would disconnect the cable from the controls. to make sure the cable is operating before going to the heater valve. I have no experience with this valve. The cable is fitted with cable keeper to the heater valve. The consol was off when I connected mine, but you may can get to it (don't know) with consol installed. To get the heater control modue out, remove 6 screws from consol, work trim ring off gear shift and work the consol out. The radio comes out next, then 5 screws from controls (1 screw is in the center, under neath the heater controls, and will take a stubby phillips. The heater valve may be a bugger though??
??????Anyone tackled the heater valve?????
