I have a 96 Geo and the front left wheel keeps smoking. Then it becomes hard to press on the brakes and the car will not accelerate past 20 miles per hour. I have took it in 3 times and they have replaced the calieper, brake hose, roters, and brake pads. This happens on and off all the time. Once it acts up I just let it rest for an hour then it is fine maybe for a few miles or even a hundred miles. I appreciate any help. thank you

Might try the master cyl. It might be retaining pressure in that line. Also make sure the caliper is not hanging up some how. The bolts need to be clean and greassed to make sure the caliper slides properly.

Thanks, I'll make sure to tell them to check that line on the master cyl. Anthing else that would be great.

Could also have a crimped steel brake line. Sounds like it will get pressure via the master cylinder, and it slowly bleeds back out. Also, have them check to make sure the proportioning valve is operating properly.

Thanks for all your help, you both were right. They couldn't figure out the problem untill I said something to them. They said they never saw a master cyl. like what I had before. strange. You both saved me money and time. thanks

Have you tried flushing the fluid? It does get old and gels up, it may be pluging the small ports in the calipers.

This happened to a ford truck I own.
