1988 El Camino???

Hi all, this is my first post..so excuse me if i have some mustakes. OKay here my crisis is, and why i joined this forum. I'm just a 14 year old kid, and for years now i've wanted my neighbors El Camino that's in his garage. I've rode motocross for years now, and im selling my bike/fourwheelers to buy this Elky. He wants $1000 bucks for it..here are the specs:1988 El Camino, no body rust, no undercarriage rust, 305, auto trans, sanded, and primed...(ready for a paintjob), needs new interior, needs tires and rims,(right now its on mix match rims and tires), and needs a new front bumper..it had a choo-choo front end, but it was wrecked..so now it has no front bumper at all. oh yeah, it only has 76,000 original miles. so tell me if it is worth the $1,000 bucks..or if i should walk. My dad is a General contractor..and knows nothing about cars..so all help is needed...and one more question...he says it's an 88'..but i thought they stopped making them in 87'..???

I read somewhere that there were some '87s that were titled as '88s. I haven't confirmed it though.

Since your neighbor owned the car, you probably have some idea of how he maintains his car(s) and the car's history. I'm always leery of buying something in primer because it hides a bunch of problems, just call me cautious. You mentioned the original front was wrecked somehow...
If the car body is solid and the engine/drivetrain is in good condition it might not be a bad deal. You can probably figure on several hundred for interior work. Bumpers should be available in boneyards.
The first rule of buying is never accept the asking price unless it's a steal and likely to get away. I'd offer him $800-$850. You can always go up and he can always come down.

Welcome to the forums. Late 1987's Elcaminos were titled as 88's like the Monte Carlo's. if you can get it for around a $1000 I'd say its worth it. Was it a factory choo choo custom? They didn't make very many and it being an 88 would make me think it possibly could be. I bought my 71 monte Carlo when I was 17 and have owned it for 2 1/2 years and love it. There is nothing like an older Chevy. The great thing is you can still get parts for them and they are pretty easy to work on. Many of the parts it would need such as interior and otherwise can be found online at sites such as www.opgi.com and I believe www.yearone.com. Good Luck and keep us posted. happy New year

there were only 420 1988 elkys produced so I would say you sould jump on it if it is a 88 model were is it located at / good luck
