GS or GSR or SI

Hi,
I currently drive MAxima GLE '97 and kinda got tired of it. A friend (dealer) that was supposed to get me GSR or Type R but he just got me a 2001 Integra GS. It seems almost impossible to get a GSR or Type R for a reasonable price these days! Or I'm just NEW to it and don't quite get that frenzy. People are getting KRAZY when they see this little red symbol in the back. I almost got a '98 Type R with a solid frot hit, blown airbags etc - some maniac spent 8500 for it, and by the time he gets done it'll cost him about $14 -15k. R title of course. Ain't that crazy?
But to cut to the chase, I want to ask - some may say a trivial question. Is it even worth it to invest any time and money (planned $3-4k) in that GS i got - because by the time I get it done with it, I end up spending almost the same or more than for a factory GSR, Type R, or Civic SI and still not get compatible performance.
Angain, I'm new to this and not getting in any details here.
So, should I keep shopping around or just stick with GS get that supped up?

I guess it all boils down to - do you enjoy doing mods, working on the car & tuning it, or are you more attached to the idea of having a car that's already as fast as you want it to be?
I would love to have a type R, but a fast GS appeals to me more quite honestly.
On the other hand, reliability wise the Type R might be a safer deal.
Although a GS and GSR are luxury appointed and more comfortable to drive than a Type R.
It's all about preferences. They ALL good cars.

once you get a turbo, you wouldn't even think about that GSR:D

I have an ls which has the same motor and you can make them fast, it just isn't as simple as a gsr. And as far as the si goes yopu would be very disapointed. I see 98 SI 's get taken at the track by LS tegs all the time. I have taken a few myself and never lost to one!
Anyway I have roughly $1500 in my motor and i can turn 14's and if I got a new clutch and some slicks I could eaisily get 13's with a 70 shot.
Don't get me wrong however i would love to have a gsr or a ITR.
