4 Cylinder in a rx7 second gen

Now I know the rotary guys are gonna kill me for asking this but has anyone seen a 4 cylinder in a fc3s? Im thinking of gettin a rx7 as a daily driver but I dont want to deal with a rotary just cus it has horrible gas mileage (well what I think is horrible gas mileage anyways). I have seen people drop in v8s and stuff but thats not me. I do agree that putting in a v8 might make it faster but more things are definately prone to breaking and Im sick of v8s at the moment. I was thinkin of either dropping a 4age 20v engine since it makes the same hp as the NA rotary and the gas mileage would go up without sacrificing any weight distribution.

So has anyone seen it done? With any 4 banger? With any engine other than a v8 like a i4 turbo or an i6 like the rb20det?

Swaps of this sort have been done numerous times...

Could u go into a lil bit more detail? Links of some sort? And wat kind of swaps? Does the granny crossmember that bolts into the rx7 accept a 4 cylinder?

i've seen
f20c (s2000 engine) and sr20det. I'm sure there are others. but i think the 4age is a waste of time, you could just get a turbo 13b (which will get better mileage off boost compared to a na 13b because of lower compression).

There is no chance that a POS 1.6 4ag wil have as muh power as a 13b!

and secondly , it would be cheaper to just keep the 13b in there!

the cost of the conversion would be 10 years worth of difference in fuel consumption.

hmmm valid points made. F20c? Thats sweet... I seen that in a 4ag but thats a diff forum :-D

But no one has any links of pics or anything? No kits? Or is it basically a custom job?

anything not rotary going into this engine bay is custom, basically.

i'd like to see a person with the R26B (4 rotor..i think?) in their FD or RX-8. That'll be a badass Rotory car.

Well...
first off, nobody can get their hands on THE R26B engine, its in some museum along with the 787b.
However, there is a shop in australia that made a custom one and that was swapped into an FD (it used four 13b housings and a custom E-shaft) and in japan, there was a shop that used 12A housings and custom e-shaft to make a 2.4 liter 4 rotor.

Also i saw a 3 rotor RX-8, done by acosta motorsports at IAS east.

If you're dead set on a piston engine in there and dont want a v8.. why limit yourself with an anemic 4? I'd say if you're gonna waste the money custom fabbing pretty much everything that needs to be done for it to fit, go with a turbo buick 3.8 V6

I have considered the giant project and decided u guys are right, rx7 wouldnt really be a daily driver but more of a autocrosser, thanx for the info
