Both my car doors are frozen shut.. Anyone got any suggestions?? I climbed thru the Hatch and tried to open them from the inside but it didn't work.. My next suggestion was to just start the car and let it run for a while, but i don't wanna do all that if its not gonna work... i don't know if will heat up the car enough. Don't wanna have to climb back thru the Hatch to turn off the car.... I'm 5'11 and 220 lbs.. climbing into a 92 eclipse isn't easy... Some suggestions??

Hairdryer and extension cord? I've never lived anywhere where it's gotten that cold, but I've heard of people using a hairdryer.

Friend from up north said to use De-icer. It's almost like alcohol and just melts the ice. You pour it all the way around the door jam. You can find it at K-mart. I also heard windsheild washing fluid works too.

i live in wisconsin andi i dont have a problem with door freezing... the problem that i have is the key hole, i put the key in and that sucker wont turn , some times it twists my key before i get the door un locked... i found a new method of turning the key back and forth to beak the ice...works nice..

use washer fluid or deicer. 97-3clipse you can get little spray cans of deicer with nozzles to jam into the lock to melt the ice. or you can try pouring washer fluid into a really small funnel aimed into the lock lol jk

Yeah, i live in wisconsin too, my car gets the garage for the nights, but when i'm at work, i find my doors lightly frozen, i need to use some force, but its not a problem. I also have a lot of problems with my key not turning, but my passenger side is better, so i always unlock my door on the passenger side, then walk around and open the drivers side door(power locks, hehe). I bought some de-icer, but haven't been able to use it yet.

Hot water freezes faster than cold water, so don't do this until you're ready to go. Don't walk away. Get the door open, then dry the area off.

Hot water freezes faster than cold water

Huh?

Huh?

really, it does. You never learned that 1 in high school science? Put cold water in a cup and hot water in a cup. Put them both in the freezer. Check like every 10 minutes or some junk. The hot water freezes faster b/c it makes steam or something. :uhoh:

it does actually. ill look for the link but basicly its because the further apart two tempuratures are the faster they change towards each other. example water at 40 moves very slowly to 32, but water at 70 changes very fast to 50 they fast to 40 then quick to 32. somehow it works out that hot water freezes faster then cold water does.

really, it does. You never learned that 1 in high school science?

I have never been to a public high school longer than a couple months. I never got fun demonstrations on stuff. But at least I didnt have to be "cooler" than everyone else all the time.

This is indeed true due to a combination of factors.....convection, evaporation, supercooling, etc.

It is called the Mpemba Effect.

Before you go ragging on someone for their post, you might want to brush up on your physics.

I thought I was the only one, lol. I don't think I've ever unlocked my driver door once since the cold weather made it's appearance. I've always had to use the passenger side.

Yeah i personaly did learn in high school physics that hot water freazes faster than cold.

what i'm going to do is put a few bottles de-icer in the hatch, for some reason that never freazes.

somethings that can help are keyless entry, so if you locks freeze it doesn't matter cause you don't need the key to unlock them.

personaly i'm 6' 150 lbs, so i'm more than willing to jump in the hatch if i have too.

kinda of a funny story my friend has a 98 tallon est. his driver side door lock froze so he went to the passeger side and got it unlocked. but the passenger side door was froze. so he pulled it so hard he broke off the door handle. he ended up crawling in the hatch. man i love having a hatch. one way or another i'm getting in the damn car!! lol.

so every day at school when his door freezes he jumps in the hatch. kinda funny, the poor guy goes to high school. how embaresing. i mean i'm a manager at a Finishline so when i get out of work real late its not like anyones looking.

his locks aren't freezing, it's his entire door. Don't use hot water unless you know it's going to work, because that will freeze too. Push the car into a garage or get a hair dryer or heat gun.
