No Heat!!!!! Plz Help

I thought my heater controller in my truck was going bad..... If it was on hot, I couldnt switch it to cold or the other way around. I bought a new controller and I STILL have the problem. its now 7 degrees and I have no heat. I was asking around and it could be the heater core but I had no leaks in the passenger floor. some say it could be the damper or even the radiator needs to be flushed. I did look under the hood and saw some antifreeze near the T stat. The truck doesnt overheat. ANY input on this would be greatly appreciated.

First, check the heater hoses and see if the coolant is flowing through them. You should be able to tell by feeling them. Next, is your engine getting up to operating temperature?

If the thermostat is working properly (guage is indicating normal) and the hoses are hot (both) you may have a door problem.

I have seen where you could be low on fluid and it will not give you heat. Check the radiator level. Sometimes the return resevoir gets plugged up and is full and you get false assumption the radiator is full when it isnt.

I have been online and read some problems other 97 owners are having. it seems that GM uses Dexcool whis creates sludge and clogs the coolant system up. flushes MIGHT work but still might be under warranty somehow

1.) Get a coolant system reverse flush and fill with fresh coolant.
2.) Replace the Rad Cap
3.) What is your temperature gauge on your dash read when the engine has been running and driving for a while? 1/4 1/2?
4.) Find where that coolant near the rad cap is coming from?

I am flushing the system and heater core this weekend. The temp is 1/2 when its hot. I replaced the T-stat and its not leaking anymore.

Good, make sure you flush both ways also.

Did you use a new T-stat housing gasket?

ok, cool. Yes, I replaced the gasket. if I flush the system, wont i clog up my water pump or something else????

Nope, shouldn't as long as you have one of the rad hoses off so the gunk desn't go into the rad.

Maybe look on google for flushing techniques.
