No heat for me

Okay, I started my truck up this morning thinking that when it was time to go my truck would be warm and toasty. Wrong!! At first nothing came out of the vents, but the tempature guage was reading normal. As I'm driving to work I feel a little trickle of heat trying to come out. I had it on full blast just in case the heat decided to come on. So, as I got on the highway and started going faster more heat was coming out and I could feel my fingers again. Then, I got off on my exit and slowed down. What do you know, there goes the heat! No more heat for me. I could still feel a tiny bit come out, but it wasn't enough. I don't understand this because the heat worked just two days ago. I've been asking around and some say the coil, the switch, antifreeze, a new heater motor (?), water, etc. Please someone help.. I'm not trying to take it to the mechanic and shell out $200 just for some heat.

Okay, nevermind.. I got it. I called the dealership and they said it could be the blower motor or the resistor (what is that?). Well, I don't trust the dealership too well, and I called a mechanic. He said it could be that or an electrical problem! I guess my next move is figure out how much a blower motor really costs and how difficult is it to replace. Oh, it is soo cold...

Don't know if you fixed your problem yet. People are so slow to respond on here. Anyway a new blower motor from Autozone will run you about $26. I have put one on my 92 sonoma and it wasn't hard. Also it could be the fan switch itself. That isn't much either. Let me know if you need anymore help or need to know where the blower motor is.

It sounds like an air gap in anti freeze. (cold air instead of warm) Confirm complete filling and integrity of cooling system. If fan don't blow, it's either resistor ass'y, fuse or blower motor.

Where does the needle go up to on the temperature gauge on the dash after driving for a while? 1/4 1/2?

Let me know if your fan(blower) works and we can go from there?

I replaced the thermostat and it works fine now. Part cost $6 and it takes about 20 minutes......

If your tamp gauge never goes above a 1/4.

Yip, you need a new thermostat and your heat will come back.
To be smart, you should also replce the rad cap and have the cooling system flushed and refilled with new coolant or the new thermostat will be ruined quickly as well.
Also note that your fuel economy is probably REALLY bad right now.

i'm getting about 20mpg in highway, is it bad?
And i read the book on flushing the coolant, is there a plug somewhere in the bottom of the engine that i need to open?

20mpg is good.
Also, have a shop flush the cooling system properly.

hey, there is two hoses coming out from the rad, one on top of the engine, and one at front bottom.
Which one is the thermstat?

The thermostat is in where the top hose attaches to the top of the engine.

Miss Sonoma, did you ever solve your issue? If so, what did you end up fixing?
