I have 1993 PA Supercharged. Lately my car is consuming gas like crazy.
A full tank of Amoco Premium is good for 150 mi max - that's when the light is already on steady. A guy told me that those could be the reasons:
1. Tune Up.
2. Transmission.
Also, couple of days ago while I was driving I heard noise from uderneath, like something is scraping the asphalt. I stopped and looked under the car - nothing was hanging, but I noticed something spilling from the rear. I Looked closer and saw the muffler is leaking gas right where the tailpipe is. Could that be the reason?
One more thing: when I drive over any! bump the squeaking noise appears. I thought it were some panels inside, but I never had that noise before. the only thing that was done to the car before it started squeaking was changing 2 engine belts and 3 pools.
Any suggestions gentelmen?

well for gas comming out of the exaust is false... its water from condensation.. thats normal.
for the MPG issue, well it depends on how you drive it, is it colder outside? do you let the car warm up alot with the remote? how are the sparkplugs and wires? whats the mileage of the car? alot of things can play in mpg .. like i have a 92 PA supercharged, if i run it VERY smoothly, i CAN achieve 250 miles on a tank of 91 octan, and thats in summer, like here, as of right now, its .15 degrees outside and i let the car warm up for atleast , to give it a chance to the engine and transmission, oh and for my behind who HAS to sit on the cold leather :P
like this time of year witht he warm ups and all, i get about 180 -200 on a full tank.. and i do step a bit more on the gas too...and i got brand new wires and plugs and a new fuel filter.
depends how much fuel economy did you have before your problem surfaced.
tells us more, .. like you mileage, and how you drive it. be honest here here :) i drive mine hard sometimes..hehehe
even broke something in a rear drum while making a power slide in a turn.. lost all brakes oil came out.. anways..thats another story :)

My car has 99650 mi on it - original. I drive the car hard - sometimes even to the speed governor (112,5 mph). I let the car warm up in the morning for 10 min before going to work.
I have to do a tune up next month.
Sometimes I see that the tach is jerky ( 700- 900rpm) - it seems like the car cannot idle well.
I had a problem with the RMP jumping, but changed the Idle Speed Control Sensor and the problem disappeared for some time. After a month The problem continued but wasn't so bad as it was.
People start opening their pieholes when they see an old Buick flying away from the light. So many hondas and nissans sniffed my smoke :)

hehehehe i see what you mean, i smoke hondas too ...its the face they make when thy get smoked by a 4000 pounds car :)
when i bought mine a few months ago, i changed the plugs.. it was idling funny too.. just by doing that it was ALOT better.. now i just did the wires because i was seeing hesitation at WOT..and the gas mileage was terrible... i change the wires last week as well as a new fuel filter and it was all groovy again :)
for the MPG you wont get miracles from this love boat with a sports car engine. but if you drive it like i do you will never get good mileage.. i can achieve 18-19 MPG city driving when i ease off the pedal and let it take momentum by it's own.
but let's face it, it's no volks jetta TDI we got here.. neither is it for a confort and performance point of view heheheh
one thing you could do if you haven't already
is take out the airbox-filter assembly and put in a cone filter and remove the grill thing at the intake port of the SC ...it takes away performance :0
and the cone lets you hear that SC whine like a skill-saw LOL.. it frightens the rice when they hear it LOL

If you haven't done a compete tune up ( plugs, wires, filters, pcv valve etc ) then its time. More often than none, the 02 sensors will become slow, and misread, even though no codes come from it. Its a 20 dollar item, change it and I bet you'll be in way better shape. its most likely the original. Use OE plugs too. also if you drive it hard, keep a good look on your catalitic converter. if it begins to clog, then your mileage and performance will suffer.. I can get 350 Miles on my tank in the summer.. not a problem. but I am ontop of everything with this motor.

the ox sensor.. hmm i should do mine.. in precaution.. but i can't get a real reading of fuel mileage this time of year.. it's out of standards.. like last night i went shopping.. it was -20 degrees! and i had to let the car idle at a few places..even my girlfriends mazda protege was not very economical this week.
oh and parkavenuechrome, i DO have a bad bearing at the rear wheel.. from the sidewalk collision..i thought they were cheaper but they cost more :(
anyways, gonna have it done next week.. after x-mas
by the way merry x-mas guys :)

Yea the bearing is gone... As for the O2 sensor, if you haven't changed it, change it.. won't hurt anything but get better mileage. Merry Xmas to you guys too!!
