Melting sparkplug wires

ok buddy of mine swaped out his blown d15b2 for an 96 civic dx engine, the swaps been fine for bout a month but today it melted the sparkplug wires, so we replaced them, then after about a 30min ride it died out and they had melted them again any ideas anyone?

What brand of spark plug wires? Do you have all the grounds on the engine that are supposed to be there? The only other thing I can think of would be the distributor kicking out too much voltage or something like that. I'd have it tested if you can.

just reg wires, cheapos. same as on my crx and i've never had a problem

Does he have the ground wire on the valve cover?

Ground wire would cause it not to spark, would have nothing to do with it melting.

they wouldnt happen to be anywhere near the exhaust manifold/header would they?
and does he have an upgraded ignition system? because like 4g4d said. it might be giving out way too much voltage
