hey everybody, I'm working on yet another contest entry. Hopefully this one doesnt die, like almost all the other ones made in the history of the s/d forum. This is a '99 eclipse gsx. So far I've gotten a preliminary sketch done to see how the bodykit, paint and wheels i chose would look. I started on the rendering. Comments and crit are appreciated! Thanks.
I'm going to post the references I'm using:
stock eclipse

Bodykit

Carbon-fiber mirror

R-1 gtr wheel

Vertical doors:

Here's the pre sketch:
http://img72.exs.cx/img72/3848/eclipsepresketch8rs.jpg
And the drawing so far:
http://img72.exs.cx/img72/4715/eclipse13tw.jpg
I'm going to do 2 tone paint, with blue on the bottom and black on the top. the middle strip separatiing the colors will be silver. I'm also going to try doing a carbon fiber hood. Other mods are going to be some racing seats, intercooler, and probably a spoiler.

Very nice coloring!
What is up with the back rim? It looks squarish and a bit wierd.

thanks ran for pointing out the rim. i think i drew in the tire way too light, making some of it look fused in with the rim. I'll fix that up the best I can, since it's looking pretty ugly at the moment.

i love it...love the front wheel its a perfect for that kind of a car!
the only problem is that the rear looks a bit weird, if you look at the rear bumper on the red eclipse and yours your is way to hmm big...
anyway great stuff!
ps, is this a contest for everyone?

Allright good luck, but if you feel like it's not possible, don't do it, it's better this way then having it smudged up all over.

Yeah, just try to clean it up w/ the background. Maybe add a BG that has some heavy shadows over the rear of the ve-hicle?

car looks great. but(dont be offended)the background looks terrible. it really needs more time spent on it. I know it was a quick one, but the way it looks right now it's taking a lot away from the car.

you are finding that the background is just as much weighted as the car is insofar as visual importance --the car is merely the "leading man." but what about the supporting roles? movies seldom have only one character.
muhahahahahahaha muhahahahaha
see? car looks pretty good, background is bad = both look bad.
see? movie has great leading man, other actors are bad = whole movie is bad.

Thanks for the comments, and Bonz: thanks for the analogy.
Alright, you guys convinced me to make the background better. It's still not good, but I went over it a few times to get rid of most of the graininess.
Btw, the scan still made it sorta crappy and it showed the ripples in the paper.

looks better.
maybe take it into photoshop and finish the b/g even better. then save it at a high resolution. burn it to cd-r. then take it to a printer and have them output it.

tip for a more solid color on the background try moving the pencil in small circles instead of crosshatching it takes a lil longer but the end result will be much smoother it should also help to prevent the paper from stretching too much in one direction which means less rippleing.

i think alex knows that. i think he just threw this background together at the last second because he was tired of it.
