WOT engine life?

What is the average life for a brand new car engine at wide open throttle in hours?
and that of a 10 year old 2 litre 4 cylinder toyota engine with 133,000 miles on the clock nd it never goes above 3500 rpm even if ur rushing?

Average life in hours of a new car, 4 kabillion hours!! And for the 10yr old toyota, even more.............

There are just too many variables to your question. First of all, no two motors are every alike. They may be similar in design and build process but just the nature of the metals may differ slightly. Sorry, but I just don't think there is any definite answer to your question.

What do you mean, wide open throttle under a load, like pulling a trailer uphill, or revving the piss out of it in neutral until it blows?
Most car engines are not designed for long periods of wide open throttle, generally. Most are not designed to, but there have been lots of smaller cars, (what we would consider to be underpowered, like VW Beetles from the 1950's) that are intended to go at full throttle all day long.

Lots of engines are designed for long periods of full throttle power under load, though. Marine engines, including those inboard models based on automotive engines can go all day at full throttle.
Same with engines in construction and farm equipment. Lots of truck engines, big and small can, too.
Personally, when towing trailers, I have driven the following engines: Chevy 2.8 V6's, Chevy 305 V8,s, Chevy 2.5 L 4 cyl, Ford 3.3 L straight sixes, among others at full throttle for more than an hour at a time. I kept the revs around 3000 rpm and fortunately they never overheated. I never noticed any ill effects.
However, if they had been a higher revving, higher output engines, they may well have blown up.

I just wonder if my dads 10 year old carina E engine will disintergrate at flat out speed (i.e limiting (7000rpm) it in 2nd or 3rd).

Whats worse for an engine?
Pushing it in top gear?
or
Limiting it in neutral?

Strange questions but due to being only 16 and not driving and having a dad who has no faith in his car some questions just need to be asked!

A 10 year old car is about 60 in people years...or akin to a comfortable old saddle horse :)
:2cents: If it has been reasonably maintained, and you drive it respectfully(<5000 rpm) it should provide many more years of fine service
:nono: If you rev it to 7000 rpm and do little toy burnout chirps it will soon be glue...
