Help!!! Hood Stuck

I own a 1996 740i and a week ago when i went to release my hood to check my oil only the catch on the drivers side would work the passengers side is stuck solid. I have managed to remove the grill to see if i can grab the cable but it has come away fro the release mechanism. Is there an easy way to release the catch so i can open my hood and fie the catch. By the way i am from the uk and my passenger side is your drivers side. thanx and i hope someone has the answer for me.

Have someone pull the lever inside the car while someone else picks up on the hood.

that wont help as the cable has come away from the release catch under the hood
