ticking when cold

i have a 91 and when i start it,it makes a ticking sound from the left side of the engine compartment(passenger side).it makes the sound for about 7 seconds then stops for about the same amount of timebefore it starts again.after it warms up it doesnt tick anymore.anyone know whats goin on with the olford.

My 99 is in the shop right now for this same problem, it turns out it is the timing chain. Or in my case, the timing chain tensioner. Some explorers had a recall for this, I would check on fords website and see if yours was one of them. Good Luck! Lyn

it might be noisy lifter, try some oil treatment and see what happens.
