I need to put a new clutch in my car, so normally i would have the flywheel resurfaced and put everything back together. but i dont want are local machinist coming within 10 miles of my car so this leaves me with the option of replacing the flywheel.
I was planning on going with a ACT2600# and a RRE aluminum Flywheel.
Has anyone used this flywheel and if so what was your experience? thanks.

RRE I have heard excellent things about. I use a ACT aluminum Flywheel just because I got it for free. Stay away from Fidanza, IMO they are shit, I have seen 2 cars where they shattered and took out the bell housing... Not good!

I didnt know ACT made an Al flywheel? The regular ACT (chromoly) is good because it is SFI aproved (safetey regulations for real racing). But they will still need to get machined next time you do the clutch. I personaly like the RPS clutch with the segmented replaceable friction surface. Spec has theier own FW as well. I've never seen a Fidanza fail, but if Jake has seen two of them go I would be wary of them. They can also be a pain when it comes to getting a new friction surface.

What about lightened stock flywheels, like the ones RRE makes? I've read many times that they have a much higher chance of cracking/exploding/shattering. I'd really like to exactly why this is, if it is even true. :)

it looked to me like this is one RRE might be making. it's stepped for the ACT and the CFDF clutches. it also has replaceable steel friction surfaces and is SFI certified. the other real appealing factor is that it weighs in under 9 lbs. heres the link its about mid page.

RRE is badass, but I'm not sure they are making those flywheels, or if the are RRE exclusive. But who cares, they look great (firction surface is 50 bucks, stepped, etc) and are SFI approved. Hard to go wrong there.
Lighten stock flywheels have a bad rap for exploding, because well, they blow up. There are at least 3 videos floating around of DSM flywheels exploding, I believe they were all lightened stockers. RRE maintains they do it "properly" though, and I'm not aware that any of the ones that blew up were RREs, but its still a risk I'm not willing to take. And for what gain. Taking .02 seconds on your time? For road racing and autoz it can really help with shifting, but in those cases you typically are not allowed to use stock based flywheels and SFI certification is mandatory anyway...
There is a reason scattershields are required at most tracks below a certain time as well. I have one for my car. ~150 bucks is a small price to pay to ensure that a broken flywheel wont total your car. And it will TOTAL the car, believe me.

Hmm, never saw their FWs till now, thanks for bringing it to my attention. Thier clutches are spec units, I wonder if thier FWs are too. I've spoken with Dave from spec before, spent about an hour on the phone with me. Great guys over there. I need a new clutch, and I'm sick of buying 2600s like I buy sparkplugs, maybe I'll try the iron setup. At any rate, they are SFI approved, which is a good thing.

well i am going to order the Al FW along with the 2600# ACT and a SS clutch line monday. i am pretty sure i have a seal leaking in the tranny to, but my lift is down so untill i get it fixed i am not a hundred percent sure on that. i know i a to damn lazy to put the car on jack stands to find out. i wont do the clutch untill i get new lift arms anyway. so i will throw it up there and get one ordered since i need to fix it anyway. this will be the best time. do you guys know of anything else i should do while i have the tranny out?? thanks Andy.

well the flywheels are out of stock, and wont be in untill the end of next week. They are made by Fidanza. I dont think it is going to be a problem. well see i guess. like i asked above is there anything else i should do to the tranny while i have it out of the car. thanks
one other thing, my car has 93,000 miles on it. do you think i should replace the clutch fork and fulcrom ball or is adding washers a sufficient fix if there is wear on the parts??

Need I say more. I'm not saying that you have to take jakes advice, but I would highly advise it. :)
