1997 Yukon Electrical problems

We have a 97 yukon that has been shutting off while driving and parked. The other day it wouldn't start and we thought it was the starter(didn't crank). Today we tried and it fired up.
We figured out a trick about it. We turn the key to ACC and wait for the gagues to go all the way up before attempting to start it. If we jump the gun it won't start, but if we wait it will. Kind of annoying.
the trick works for now, but we'd rather fix it totally. Any one have any ideas?

Do you have any aftermarket things like an alarm w/ ignition kill or auto start with ignition bypass? if so you may want to check those items for faulty relays or control moduals. Hope it helps.

how new is your battery?
mine was behaving like that a few years ago, about a month before the battery went.

I would tend to think that is a coincidence. Have you check your battery terminal connections for corrosion and tightness?
