Newbie here. I'm interested in installing a subwoofer in the back of my 02 4-Runner. Not looking for something that will blow the doors of, and I don't want it to take up much space in the cargo area. I've been looking at those Bazakoa tube-like woofers and wondering if I could mount one above the left wheel well. Does anyone have experience with this, or other suggestons as to how I can improve my stereo's bass?
Thanks ahead of time.

www.Crutchfield.com has a subwoofer that will fit in the pocket on the rear passenger side.

just today I checked out this guys runner. He customized the side panels behind back seats(cargo area). He had one 10 inch woofer in each side. he added a bunch of foam insulation between the interior panels and metal panels of the body. he also sealed the interior panels with some kind of silicone/caulking. They don't take up any room at all and sound nice.!

Ryan J.,
If at all possible, could you snap some pix of your buddy's installation. I have a box with a 10" woofer in the back of my '94 and it's an open invitation since they didn't make cargo covers back then. It's 'covered', but that sounds like the most inconspicuous idea I've heard yet!
So many people have digital cameras these days, I'd be most fortunate if you could hook that up. Thanx in advance for the if and when. If not, no big deal... If not, perhaps you can find out which brand/model woofers he installed and I can find them on crutchfield as well?
Thanx,

I have a great place to store your subs. You can put them behind the driver and passenger side seats. I know it seems complicated but it works. What I did was build 2 boxes. I made them about 5 1/2 inches high and about 20 inches long. And put some speaker covers over them to protect them from your feet. I will try and post a pic asap. Also, if you don't have people that sit in the back seat, make the seats hold subs. In my friends runner, he built a 1c.ft. box for a 10" woofer and covered it with plexi glass and put an amp in the seat next to that with some plexi glass covering it. I know all this sounds wierd but it can be done. I work at a sound shop and I have seen it all. When the summer comes, I plan to take out the back seats and install hard wood flooring all throughout. Then I am going to put the seats all the way in the back. splitting them and making them face each other. Then next to the seats will be 2 custom made sub boxes hosing 2 12" subs on each side. Then were the seats were will be 2 12" lcd monitors with tinted plexi glass covering and a fold away part of the floor. I know this all sounds impossible and complicated, but wait and see.

I have looked everywher for a place to put some mid range speakers in the front with no luck. Its obvious where to put tweeters but anything bigger than the stock 3 1/2" I cant find. Anybody know?

Good luck with all of that? That's wayyy above my head, but can't wait to see it! 5 1/2" is pretty high if you do have friends in your vehicule. The amp/woofer combo on the seat under plexi scares me. I live in New Orleans and don't think my ride would last a second on the street even in front of my house... Good luck and Godspeed.
