master/slave amps

I wanna hook up a master/slave amp setup in my car, but Im not sure about the wires. Do I connect both amps' negatives and then hook up one positive to the positive, and one positive to a negative?

I not sure what you are trying to say but it sounds like you mean run the amps in series with each other, if they are any kind of higher wattage amps i suggest running 2 seperate power cables from the battery, because if you did run it in series i dont know if lets say the 2nd amp would get as much power as the first, i never seen it done or tried it.

Most master/slave amps hav a bridge cable (looks kind of like a phone cord) Then there should be a switch that says master/slave switch one to master and the other to slave. Your master amp is the positive and slave is negative. Connect the negative termainals on each amp. On the master amp run the positive terminal to the positive on the sub. On the slave amp run the POSITIVE terminal to the negative of the sub. BEWARE when your bridging amps together the minimum impedance is DOUBLE the original rated minimum impedance of the amps......for example if your bridging two 1 ohm stable amps then the lowest impedance you can have now is 2 ohms.....also what amps are u bridging to what subs?

I didnt know they had to be made to be master/slave amps. I thought you could hook up any 2 of the same model amp that way. Ive got 2 480 watt amps, and I wanted to hook them up to a JL 12.

if you plan on powering 1 sub (and it's not a dvc) with 2 amps, then you need amps that can be bridged together like bumpin pointed out. But if you have say a dual 2ohm sub and you have 2 amps that can be run at 2ohm each, then you can put 1 amp on each coil and not worry about linking them together, as long as you make sure you get the same gain and filter settings on both (a multimeter would help a TON here).

no I guess it looks like I wont be able to do it. My amps arent made for that, and its a SVC sub. Thanks guys.
