well we were both in the left turning lanes (2 lanes) awhen the light goes green we both go easy around the corner. then punch it as we are getting straight. long story short i had him by 3-4 cars by the end of third. i honestly thought he would do better than that!! my car 03 supercharged tib.

your "supercharged" tib wouldn't be a huyndai tiburon would it???sounds kinda fishy cause i've had run ins with n/a tiburons and haven't had any troubles with them
so unless that supercharger did some wonders for ur car or there are magical elves at work.....
but im kinda thinking it wan't an STi, it was a wrx or the guy wasn't racing/flooring it

No, they're NA. The stock I4 version has 138 hp, the V6 has 170 hp.

HA...you sure the STi was even trying to race you? Most subaru owners, especially those that are part of NASIOC, aren't street racers...

Oh...and it's not uncommon to find a 2.5RS with an STi or WRX hood and STi Spoiler, nor a WRX with an STi Spoiler (My best friend has one). So if you really did beat this car and he really was trying to run you, I doubt very seriously it was an actual STi.

hmmmmm my friends STi beat me by around 3 cars from a roll, and i make around 230whp, my friend pauls turbo KA is running 13 psi and is making more power then my 9 psi car and got walked by my friends STi. my friend paul's KA-T ran a 13.9 @104mph and lost by around 3 cars from a roll. to 100mph.

what makes your think your little supercharged tib can be 8 cars faster then me and my friends cars when we both are lighter then you and put down over 230whp,and can actually put the power down in 1st gear where you would be spinning your tires?

edit: hmmm just took at look at your home pages, you guys are a bunch of show cars with no mods done to your cars ( i/h/e don't count cause they honestly will only give you like 30whp tops ) and you guys should weight alot with your large rims, and stereos, and body kits. you guys should stick to being carpet trailer queens, you don't want your pretty little cars scratched up from bumps.

edit: again, after reading your story again, do you have any idea how short the STi's 1-3 gears are? when my friend drives it he practically hits the end of 3rd instantly. 1-2 doesn't even take it to 60mph. so when he drives, its basically, shift.. shift........shift really really short time in the gears but before you iknow it, your already going 80mph. last time i was in my friend's STi in a stop light race from a roll and before we knew it we were about to shift into 6th!!! this is only around 2 long blocks on a blvd and we've already hit around 110+ and that was the race where he walked my friends 13psi KA-T by 3 cars and i was in my friend's STi and i even ddin't realise how fast we hit 110mph. and also my friend's KA-T walks SRT-4's when he was auto, when he raced my friend's STi had done a 5 speed conversion and raised the boost, my friend's STi also raced a Vette on the top end on the highway and they were pretty damn close so no way your little tibby would've beaten a STi by that much if the STi was actually racing.

yup the gears of the sti are short maybe not as short as tat made it out to seem but short, my boy to chages gears about 3 times in one block, shifting at 3k in each gear. i think he hits just about 30 in first if he red-lines it, key word THINKS, im not sure about that

whoa..i don't think you quite know how fast you'd have to be in order to beat an STi by 3-4 car lengths. I think he was playing with you..or..you thought he was racing but he wasn't. Maybe he was casually accelerating up to speed and you took that as he was racing. I myself get wasted by STis alot...and I think I'd have to be pretty bored to race a hyundai tiburon.

2nd gear doesn't go up to 60 you have to shift before you hit 60 like at 57 I think. I just rode in one thats how I know.

The gearing is very short in the STi's

1st gear is rediculously short
7k in 2nd gear is about 55 MPH (as has been mentioned)
3rd gear is good to about 80
4th is good to about 95

I dont know about 5th and 6th.

For street driving, here are the gears I'm in:

0-15: 1st
15-25: 2nd
25-30: 3rd
30-40: 4th
40-55: 5th
55+: 6th

Those are cruising gears. If I have to accelerate quickly, I will often skip gears when upshifting once I've gotten to the speed I want to go.

Back to the main topic, either the STi wasn't racing (believable), wasn't an STi (outside chance), or this story is totally ficticious (most likely).

Most people replying dont understand what an incredible launch advantage an STI would have over a tib.

see in a car i always look for styling before anything else then comes performance. im a big fan of two door cars. i would rather own tatII's car than an sti, even if his car was stock. 4 door cars are not particularly my fav. oh and that vr4 wing in my pic is pretty ugly imo i like the other one better.

i actually happen to like that wing lolz. boy are we different. but yes there is something nice about having a 2 door. if you ask a older person who has no clue about cars, and ask they would call a EVO or STi sport cars, i doubt they would say yes, in fact i dont' even think i could call them sport cars.

Well, it's a bit more complicated than that....

The Miata is easier to control the and adjust the attitude of in corners, and a combination of the better suspension design and lighter weight make it easier to toss around.

The STi has some very strange handling characteristics (even for an AWD car) and it is much more difficult to drive it to its limits. As with any AWD car, it has inherent understeer and does not take particularly well to just being tossed around. A lot more finesse is required.

On a public road, I'd say the Miata is more fun to drive, simply because the limits of the STi are so rediculously high that it's somewhat boring to drive at speeds that won't get you arrested.

On track, the STi is more rewarding to drive well because it is much harder to get to the limits of the car. That having been said, I prefer the Miata as a track car because there's more competition in the classes it races in, maintenance is a whole lot less, and it's a $15k write off instead of a $30k write off if something goes wrong.

IMO, none of this has anything to do with 2 door vs 4 door. The STi is the only 4-door I've ever owned, and it took a good 6 months of owning it before the looks started to grow on me. Then again, I didn't buy it for looks.

You should tell that to my insurance company. not that I am complaining , I love the fact I pay less on my 3000GT then I did on my Neon SRT4, but the SRT4 was a 4-door, four cyl compact and I payed 3 times what I pay for a two door 6-cyl "sports car".
