Hi,
I have a 2000 Alero. I am trying to locate the transmission stick to check levels.
Also I feel the car struggling to get to highway speeds wonder if the tranny is low?

Thanks,
Bryan

I have a 99, and im not sure if the 2000 is the same, but there is no stick in mine....you just change it. See your owners manual if you have it.

There is no transmission fluid dipstick on these. If you want to check the level, you need to raise the vehicle and at the bottom of the transmission is a plug. You need to pull this plug out, stick your finger in, and if you feel transmission fluid, you have enough in it. These transmissions are supposed to be "sealed for life" transmissions, eventhough we are directed in the owners manual to have the fluid flushed every 50K miles or 5 years. At the dealership that I go to, at every oil change they check ALL of the fluids including the transmission fluid, as well as check the tollerance of the coolant, check the battery, all belts and hoses, and make sure the tires are properly inflated. All for only $18.00 (I furnish my own oil). This is true for many GM Goodwrench dealers. A few in Denver don't seem to offer it, but as you head into the suburbs they do. I couldn't find a place that would do it when I lived near Denver, but now that I'm in a small town about 50 miles north, every GM dealer up there does it...small town guys maybe.

By the way, I would change the transmission fluid every 30K miles if I were you and make sure you get the ENTIRE thing flushed including the torque converter. Also, make sure the filter gets changed. I had mine done for the first time abou 11K miles ago and I had them use Valvoline ATF. I think next time I will use Valvoline High Mileage since I will be around 60K. I have heard of a few of these transmissions failing around 100K miles as well as other GM transmissions. I just do it every 30K to be on the safe side.
