So I know people turbo these engines(ka24de)... But how much boost on average can they handle? with turbo manifolds, boost controller, forged piston, ect. like 6 to 12 or so psi right?

Looks like with perfect tuning, the ring lands usually give out around 400whp just from pressure.

These are good threads to see what usually goes wrong and what causes it. With forged internals, there really is no limit. At least nobody has really hit a brick wall. it all comes down to tuning. Stock internals are pretty safe to around 300whp(12-14psi) if they are in good shape and you have a good tune. Sure it is possible to go past that on stockers, but how good of a tuner are you?

What are ring lands? Are they the slots in the pistons where the rings go?

Ok so if want to get a s14 and turbo the ka24de motor and run about 10psi or so, how much would that setup cost?

A pre-fab kit will run like 2500 or more. If you wanna do it yourself, some have done it for under 1000$ I think, nissanfanatic and TatII are most knowlegeable, since they did it.

I'm pretty sure ring lands are the parts right below the rings that support the ring itself. Looking at the piston, its the part below the ring itself. I have heard the ring lands on OE SR pistons are twice as thick as KA pistons. The only way I see you getting a 10psi setup with $1000 is with a T3 or something. I think that is safe on the stock fuel system but a 6:1 FMU would be a good investment. BTW if the stock fuel system keeps your AFs safe, you can count on your car making less than 200whp. Just an example of small turbos making small power. When you figure most people running T3/T4 setups are making around 250-270whp on 10psi and upgraded fueling systems. Trust me, 5psi really wakes the KA up. Traction will become a factor in that range. Anthony on KA-T.org has traction problems all the way to 4th gear. IIRC he couldn't floor it until he got to about 90mph. Talk about power...

if you want around 300whp tops, then a big T3 would be good enough to give you nice spool time, they can be found pretty cheap. i mean it honestly is not that expensive to turbo a KA anymore. you can buy a pretty damn good kit from boostdesign for only 1800. thats cheaper then what i had to pay to piece my kit together.
i really would suggest buying atleast SR20DET 370cc injector since they fit right in, and you can fine tune them for each rpm range. this way theres less chance of failure. you can find them for usually $100 on ebay. and you would need some kind of fuel controller. a apexi SAFC II is perfect. it will allow you run a Z maf if you max out your stock one, and with a wide band 02 sensor you can tune hte car on the street if your willing to try it. usually i would take it to a tuner and put the car on a dyno to tune it. also you would need to play with your timing.
i know a guy who didn't bother with timing and he has a semi built KA. running only 9-13 psi he detonated like crazy and blew his engine like 4 times. now after i told him he needs to retard timing, hes been running a stock block on 13 psi no problems.
its really all up to how you tune hte engine.

So you CAN have 13psi on stock block ka24de?

Yes it is possible on a good condition engine. Remember though, 13psi from a small turbo is not the same as 13psi from a larger turbo.
