Hey all,
Just curious how to get the front doors off (2000 GMC Sierra 4x4 Z71) to access the speakers. I haven't really tried yet, but I am limited in my time to work on my pickup so I would like to go into the project with some knowledge rather then spend a couple hours trying to figure it out. I have at least one blown speaker from the moron who owned my pickup last and want to replace them both as it sucks not having loud enough front speakers to match my subs.

Thanks

I believe you have 6 1/2" speakers with basic tweeters

6 3/4 components. Probably gonna replace with some MB Quarts.

most 6 1/2's have an over siazed ring for 6 3/4 also.

I HIGHLY recommend that you stick with MB Quarts for all your speakers. I have the 6 1/2" MB Quart component system with crossovers in the front and 4 1/2" MB Quart component system with crossovers in the rear and they sound AWESOME!!!!

well howdy
The front door pannels are not hard to do it just takes some guts untill you here that first pop of the tabs pulling out of the door. two screws and some quick tabs and the door pannel lifts right up out of the window track. I recomend getting a door panel poping tool from your local auto parts store it's cheep and will give you some confidence.
Once the pannel is off the speakers are just quick cliped in for easy removal.
Good Luck.

Thanks wrench. :)

Another question, how do you access the rear speakers (four door model)? I have taken off the screw in the cup holder and the one in the door handle and cannot figure out how to get to that thing. The grill looks like the front where the clips are bent over the door so you have to get to it from the back.

Let me know.

Thanks

same setup; take out the screws then pop the trim clips around the edge. Then panel should come right off.

The rear door has a bunch of clips you have to pop off. I just used a rag and a flathead screwdriver. The whole door panel comes off, not just the speaker grille.

Nah, but if you go to:
www.crutchfield.com

They will tell you what fits your car and have loads of research tools. If you have a 1999 (new body) and up chevy/GMC then the front is a 6 3/4 components (but down to 6 fits) and 4x6 in the rear doors.

the rear speakers were a little bit of a pain... Mostly because I have a 3 door... The one rear door all you do is take out the 2 screws in the cupholders, then you have to pop off the whole door panel. Just start at the door jam with a flat head, all you do is pry them off , you will hear them pop, and they are about every 12 inches. Now the drivers side, you have to take out the rear seat, look under the sear next to the jack on thet little shelf, their are 2 bolts their, and on the drivers side they are on the floor, not hard to find. Just undo thoes 4 bolts and lift the seat out.
Now the driverside panel, take out the same screws out of the cupholders...its basicly the same as the passenger side, but its the whole panel, all the way to the rear window. You will need to disconnect the seatbelt too. To get everything back in , just get everything lined up and push till you hear them snap in.

let me know if you have anymore questions or if i left anything out.
