Did I Fry my Deck??

Alright, i was putting a mono amp on my rear speakers and there was only one frequency playing. My friend Andrew was helping me and when i suggested putting the amp to the side coming from the deck, he agreed and we hooked it up. We started the radio and turned on the amp, all of a sudden the fireworks started. The two 15 amp fuses blew on the amp....WEEEEEE! Then we disconnected the RCA cable, the REM wire and took the amp out of the car. The speakers were all hooked up again and when i tried to play the music.....nothin! The LCD screen still plays and the volume goes up, but no music. We had the deck turned to the rear channel and it is a 4 channel deck. It is a $675 deck w/ an LCD screen and don't want to blow it, but want to know...did I??? Someone please help!!

Wait a minute? You put the Amp Out wires, that are supposed to go to the speakers, and connected them to the head unit's Out wires, that are also supposed to go to speakers....?

If that's the case... yeah, you probably f*cked up your head unit pretty good!

Yeah, my friend was trying diff possibilities to try make it sound better and when he did that, it blew the fuses on the amp and probably the ones on my deck as well. Everybody i've asked said that i probably fried the amp inside the deck. If that's the case, i have a friend named Scott that can rebuild it for nothin....provided its fixable.

when the fireworks usually start u most likly blew the preamp in your unit i would recommend calling the company and finding out what it'll cost to get a new 1 and to have your friend put it in!!!! good luck!!!

never trust a friend who has never done stereo installs... case and point.. read up on it yourself, or get an installer to do it.. yeah you basically created a huge short in the system, and fried your head unit, and possibly the amp as well. Even though the fuses went. only reason the display and CD player still work is because the preamp, and deck controls are different circuits.. the deck controls control that portion by going thru another system.. hence you still have display, and control function, but no sound.

That's exactly what happened...i have function of everything, but no sound. Is that preamp a removeable part or not?? What do you think would be an approx. price. By the way Andrew does know how to install stuff, he was just lazy and tired that day and wanted it to work and in the midst of it he came up with the idea and wanted to try it...it was more my fault that i agreed. His amp still works too...jerk (Andrew).

yeah its messed up. thats like putting a positive and negative together. the amp in the radio is screwed up, but you can probably do this.buy a four channel amp with a crossover to each channel for your door and rear deck speakers.and another amp for you subs. if you connect all your speakers to amps you wont need the radios speaker cables just the rca wires.i have a panasonic cq-vd7200 and i dont use the wires for the speakers cause i have amps to all of them. p.s. change your factiry speakers if your gonna but amps to them, and dont go get an amp with too much watts for the small speakers.

I was planning on getting an amp for my speakers...i don't have subs nor do i plan on getting any either. I should try that idea...it might just work. Oh, by the way, i already ditched the stock speakers...i have Alpine Type R 6x9's in the rear deck and Type S 6.25" in the front.

Good Choice, With The Right Amp Your Sounds Should Be Very Clear And Loud, Overall A Good Clean Sound. Good Luck Hope It Works.

The idea that 94hondaacc suggested sounds too good to be true...is it? Before i get my hopes up i want someone to verify this if possible. (no offense 94hondaacc I just don't want to get my hopes up w/o some other evidence)

yeah no doubt. hopefully someone can verify my story, or just borrow your friends amp and try it with a speaker. if your rcas still give signal you should ha ve sound trough your speaker via the amp. i had this happen to a pioneer deck that i had and the only way it worked was through the amp.i dont know if it will work on yours though, but good luck

Do you think that the RCAs will still work?? I believe you cuz i asked one of my friends and he said that should work. That's how you do speakers and subs to begin with.

I Think That It The Rcas Will Still Work, But Only One Way To Find Out. Try It And Let Me Know What Happened.

I have to wait until at least Monday to do it so there won't be any news on it soon.

if I were you I would go get an amp and use the RCA pre outs. My head unit hasn't had an internal amp in 3 years and she is still running strong with the amp in the trunk.

That is what i plan on doing...if you read the posts before this (idk if you did) but someone suggested that already and you seconded it so now i am for sure going to do that. I just have to wait until Monday until my partner in crime...Andrew, the guy that helped me fry my deck...comes back to town after his hockey tournament.

ok first of, did you check the fuse in the deck? is it blown, if so change that first.. then check.. The fuses on the amo, if they blow, thats usually because you would have blown your out put chip(s) in the amp. On your deck, when you try to reverse your speakers, you surge the output chips in your deck.. WHich are connected to the built in amp of your deck. Its al about chain reaction. Lots can blow, some can blow.. You just don't know until you get inside the deck.
I worked at an installation and repair shop and seen lots of dumb stuff come in from doing something wrong.
RCA's also by the way, will probably not work as all the output is connected to the same capacitors and crap and well, not to get technical..
See what happens for ya! Good luck
