Getting paint off plastic

Ok after much searching I'm still stumped. I bought a set of xenon fender flares on ebay and I need to remove the old paint from them. They were painted to match the vehicle unfortunately they didn't use any additive to keep the paint flexible. The current paint is cracked and peeling in sections so coating over it isn't an option, most strippers attack the plastic, I'm afraid sanding and sand blasting will mark the plastic, and it's just too cold here to try pressure washing.

Anyone got a tip or suggestion? All help is greatly appreciated.

just make sure you wash it GOOD before you paint them.

Paint thinner won't touch catalyzed paint.

Try lacquer thinner. Take some old rags and wrap around flares and then soak rags in teh thinner so it stays on longer. Also try some of the commercial paint strippers. Try autobody.com I think is the web site. They sale paint remover that I have used on airplanes before. Spray the remover on, put in a room or garage at least 60 degrees, and the paint litterally just runs off.

I'm curious now, what did you try useing and what worked best????? I'm into collision repair and painting and wanted to know.

SEM makes a paint stripper made specifically for bumpers and plastic that will take off pretty much any paint out there except factory baked on enamel.

Kleanstrip makes a paint remover that it markets for aircraft which will bubble up about any paint and let you wipe it right off.

I will e-mail to get the exact name of the stuff we use to strip entire planes with and post it later.

so far no luck. Oven cleaner won't touch automotive paint. Aircraft stripper (wal-mart) will attack the plastic. Thinner seems ineffective as well. Brake fluid will work but is messy and time consuming. The SEM product would seem to be the best idea; I'll have to research it. Sanding is always an option but again it's time consuming as well. I considered sand plasting but it has been too cold here to experiment.
