 I love it, I'm coming back from the local car wash during lunch and this dumb ass with a Mitsu Eclipse wants to race. I ignore him and get a good look at his piece shit car, 5" coffee can fart muffler (w. zero back pressure), ground effects, stickers, but factory wheels and tires.

At the next light he's waiting for me and on green decides to tear out and catch second. I decide to give it the old college try and not only catch up with him but also blow by him at a buck ten. He decided he's had enough and at the next light he was several cars back.

Buddy this is your Misubishi wake up call! No. 1, the Eclipse sucks ass! No. 2, your car was faster without the two grand in "modifications". No. 3, get your stupid ass a job and stop harassing the workin' man on his lunch break.

Mitsu Eclipse don't suck. If you get the turbo they are fast. They will blow the max any day. I kinda want a faster car. Maybe a Mitsu Eclipse turbo awd. I like the 95 body, people don't get pissed at me, i have a 95 max and 17 years old. I kinda want a fast car.

Nobody's going to get mad at you for stating your opinion, but if I where you I'd look into the Subaru WRX. I couldn't consider it because the back seat's too small (2 kids and fat cat clients), but hey, your 17 and need the back seat only on weekends to fool around with the ladies!

95 max's are fast cars. they can beat preludes and integras in highway battles because they're v6's. and the 2k2 max run's 14 second 1/4 miles. and does 0-60 in low 6's. thats mustang gt territory. the max is one of the best sleepers. it definitly shuts most ricer honda boys up.

If you get a turbo eclipse and put a few grand in it and you'll be in the 12s or 13s:cool:

Damm, u cant compare the two. there are so many breeds of dsm's (eclipses, talons, lasers). They range from 90hp (1.8) - close 190hp (2.0T)

And a GSX with a ~1200 in mods, could run sub-13.5 1/4 miles,

Fastest so far is 8.2, NO NOS. (david burchur)

and i'm not knocking on max, their sweet cars, but just not as upgradable as some other cars out there.

Honestly, I think you're smokin' somethin' strong :smoka: , but that's my opinion!!! The only way you MIGHT beat it is if you have your ride supercharged and that was a stock 94-98GSX?! Other than that, there's no way! I love my Max, but my man has a 98 GST w/a few mods and it's quick! So I'm talkin' from experience...not word of mouth! :D

Guys,

Before my 97 Max SE (had to get a 4 door.. no choice with 2 kids!) I had a 90 Talon TSI (AWD, 5 speed) It was quick... with the AWD, no wheel-spin. Before my first child was born, I was shopping around for a newer model.. maybe 95-97 (They stopped making them in 97, the Talon at least) Was kinda pissed when the wife said "TOO SMALL!"
So I had to look for something sporty, but big enough for the family.. hence, the Maxi. Not regretting it in the least.

The Talon/Eclips TSI/GSX are quick cars. Even without any mods.
Just my 2 cents,

Geoff

:bricks1: On 15 psi, the DDP V-6 Turbo System will make 400hp with the right additions/alterations. This system is one of many applications impacting Eclipse performance. It has been heard of up to 495hp-500hp gains with suitable adjustments. Thus, creating a new field of expermentation with Eclipse performance. I can assure you that this is just the beginning of greater things to come.
With this kind of power, the Eclipse has beond doubt more performing potencial, and as far I'm concerned much more of an aesthetic value than a Maxima will ever.
Nissan makes awesome cars, However, if we are talking about performance the Z is the genuine article.
A 3.0 24 valve intercooled/turbo charged Eclipse can unquestionably out-perform many of its rivals.

The Maxima's design is not as aesthetic , less appealing to the eye (surely my opinion). I just favor the over all qualities pertaining to the mitsubishi eclipse. Also, the new Maxima body style is not as "racey" as the older body, in fact I like the old school style better it kind of reminds me of an older skyline.
Any way, both the Maxima and the Eclipse have proven to be awesome rides, they both have there pros and cons generaly speaking.
It all depends on individual taste. . . . . . . . . .

3. How many well tuned Eclipses do you run into? I have yet to find one but the Maxima performs better than expected, straight from the factory. Properly reinforced, the VQ engine can produce 1500HP and is claimed to be more bulletproof than the 2JZ engine that was used by Toyota in the Supra line. If budget weren't an issue and the choice were between your DDP system and my reinforced VQ, I'd take the VQ anyday.

You don't want back pressure on a turbo Eclipse.

My 1992 AWD Talon ran 12.4@110 back in the late 1990's with only $1500 in mods.

There are some extremely fast AWD Turbo Eclipse/Talons out there folks.

Hmmm....

well tuned Eclipses aren't that rare. I'd go as far as to say they're more common than a well tuned Maxima - but I guess it's all about where you live. I ran into a lot of them back in Utah, and haven't seen too many here in Jersey. Go figure. Although I dont have much knowledge on the eclipse/talon, I know that the right parts can make them tough contenders, especially the awd models - there's not much to argue against no/little wheelspin after cranked up boost.

As for a 1500hp VQ, are you on crack? Of course, -properly reinforced- you can get a lawnmower to pump 1500 horses, but it's rare to find anyone pushing the bulletproof RB series of Nissan engines past the 1k mark. I'd love to see 1500hp VQ make it past one oil change without ripping off the tires. Numbers mean little when thrown in the pit verses practicality.

Bottomline, I'll keep my maxima over a tallon because of Nissan's reliability - but I'd take a Supra anyday, just for bragging rights.

yes, it is true that eclipses have the potential to be fast with less money than it takes to make the maxima fast, but it is my belief that it would be more interesting to turn a sedan, such as the maxima, into a sleeper (or whatever you call it) than an eclipse into a faster car. The 95 and above (5 and 6 spd) maximas can easily take, if not beat, stock for stock, an eclipse gs-t. The GSX, however, would most likely win, considering it takes an eclipse with AWD and turbo to beat a maxima. Maximas aren't heavy, a GXE model actually weighs less than a GSX.

and in my personal opinion, i would rather have a maxima than an eclipse, I've driven an eclipse with turbo, then got in my maxima, the eclipse (interior and exterior) build quality just feels....cheap, like it's a toy. My maxima feels more refined and durable. And as far as aesthetics go, I think a maxima, lowered, with mille miglia wheels, looks better than any eclipse out there.

Its all about what feels right!

If your a maxima person than drive a maxima.

If you enjoy a perfectly balanced short shift transmission,
and like exotic design than go for the eclipse.

Im sure glad they used an eclipse and not a maxima in
To Fast To Furious.

Sporty sedan or exotic sports car, whats your bliss?

Oh and......
My 2000 eclipse's leather interior has class writen all over it.
I design cars, and the eclipse has nice curves, but can use a little help
with the high flanks, thats why you slap a body kit on.
add a nice body drop and some sweet wheels.

The maxima is to "boxie" looking for me and I dont like its curves.
Its like having a girl friend that performs good but has nothing nice to grab on to.

I think one of the main problems with the Modded DSMs you see is that most of these guys are NOT running GS-Ts and GSXs. As far as any of the T's or GSXs I know of they are usually all about go. I don't think a GS-T is anything to fear in a Maxima. I also came across a 534hp 604ft/lb. Maxima for sale for about 12K that ran 12s. I have the link if anyone is interested in this assassin.
