Hey guys,
A friend of mine is turning 16 in April. He wants a sports car, and I recomended the 240SX b/c it is the fastest thing in his price range ($15,000), Does anyone have a guess on insurance for a 16 y/o boy? Does the year affect the cost (S13, S14)? Also does anyone have estimates for a SR20DET (JDM), RB25DET, and RB26DETT, swaps? The complete swaps, work, motor, parts, out the door.

I think we already had a discussion on insurance for 240's and the prices of swaps. Search for them

ya i started the post with insurance quotes and prices of the the swaps are all over the place on here and the internet. but i found for a complete swap SR20DET as cheap as $1800(missing some parts) all the way past $3000. and to get it professionally installed at a shop runs over $1000 but i have a friend who will help me with mine who has swaped plenty of engines out and tought me more than half of what i know about cars now. goodluck

If he's 16, he has 15000$ for a car and he's planning on an engine swap (done by someone else as it seems), I'm sure it doesn't matter how high insurances are, he can afford it.

Ok thanks guys. $15,000 isn't that much these days though

no, but he'd be able to do everything i want to do with my car, not for a penny more. consider the ka24de and turboing it cause it seems to be another reliable engine if you do things right.

ur shittin me, he has 15k and you say it is the fastest car in his price range? you could get a 1998 camaro SS for 15k, and they have 320 hp, and can keep up with a skyline in the 1/4 mile. or are you saying he can buy any car he wants and mod it?, because then of couse i would get the 240 and put like 10k into it.

15k isnt to much these days?????!!!!!!!!!! wtf you rich bastard yes it is im 20 and have never had more than 5 grand to me in my life!!!!!! am i a poor ass NOOOOOOOO i work like a mad man. wow the luxuries of parents these days. Well i cant be mad cuz they gave me their 240sx lol. But it was worth what 4 grand at that time. 15 grand rediculous. But yes 2.5 grand for the car and all the rest in engine and suspension then given to a 16 year old kid.....hmm perfect recipe for a another parts car 240 in the junkyard. Im sorry but god damn i fore call this incident happening.

He could easily get a 240 for like 6k, then have money for an engine swap, turbo, and he'd still have money left.

If I had 15k, I would be looking at a VR4 or a GSX and a 240.

I could get a TT FD3S for that price. Damn these rich kids.

haters

logik23
12-18-2004, 08:40 PM
Haters? Why? Are you some little spoiled brat with a trust fund who acts like he actually earned what he has, but he rly just had it all handed to him?

Ledzepig
12-18-2004, 08:42 PM
no i dont even have a car... as a matter of fact i cant even afford to get a permit yet... im just surprised that you guys would take more time to flame him than to help him out...

...just stating the truth

EDIT: not to everyone... just the obvious few

logik23
12-18-2004, 08:44 PM
How much does a permit cost where you live??? And why help when you can flame? :-P

Ledzepig
12-18-2004, 08:45 PM

I've already posted what my insurance costs in about 5 threads. I've done my share....

wow.......just tell him to buy a 240 in perfect condition considering he has the money for it, then do a swap, get some nice suspension, maybe a nice body kits and he is set, then put what ever is left over in the bank for insurance.

i would never spend 15K on a FD. cause i garantee you will need anotehr 10K to keep the car running. my friend spent all of his live savings just to buy a FD with only 60k miles on it. after like 3K miles the engien gave out, and he had to borrow money from everyone knows just to fix it and keep it running.

What goes wrong with the engines? End seals give out?

TatII
12-19-2004, 02:45 AM
apexi seals goes out, the twin turbos are hard to maintain becasue the mechanism that operates them breaks over time for extreme heat, the vacuum lines under the intake manifold's crack. etc etc. also their interiors falls apart because theres only 2 screws holding htem down becasue mazda uses as little as possible to save weight, it also has no sound deadening material to save weight, so the whole car sounds clunky. the car is very sensivity to heat, and over boost with colder temp which leads to detonation which leads to engine failure. you now once in a rotary and thats enough to take out your engine. the engien also floods easily and its a bitch to clear the engine. etc etc. again, a nightmare of a engine to maintain.

I love the RX-7s, but was never fond of the rotary, I love the good old cylinder engines.

i'd make sure to have at least $4000 for insurance put away. a 16 year old driving a car modded out like i assume you will do, means high rates..

FYI my friend doesn't have a trust fund, and mine got cancelled before it started paying out. I may get it back I dunno. Yeah insurance is the only problem right now. RX7 cost too much to keep running. VR4 are way way too heavy, and GSX's are hard to find in good condition, and haven't been screwed over. by some ricer. I asked for help not for you to try and pick on kids.

logik23- Is that your S14, if so that cost way more than $15,000
D-Bo- you are the only helpful person so far.

Guys time to stop dissing people that may or may not be "more fortunate" I hate that phrase. Don't insinuate that all kids whos parents have money are rich good for nothing, asses that never get jobs. As soon as I get my work permit I am getting a job

No, it's not mine, I'm poor.

Hit_N_Run-player
12-20-2004, 07:39 PM
why not get a job to get the permit?

Also, i dont think this guy deserves a 240sx, hes only 16 and has 15K$ WTF?? and whoever said that isnt very much is an idiot... this kid should just get some cheap car and keep his life, he'll crash any rb swap that has 15 grand put in it...thats not what we want to see. Drive a stock 240sx then when you get older and know more, then mod it out with that money...IMO, just dont kill yourself..

I agree with Hit N Run-Player. I wasn't a very good driver when I was 16, and I'm sure that most of us weren't. Tell your friend to get a 240, then spend some time driving it. Otherwise, he's going to be the typical kid who's trying to impress his friends and get in a wreck that could have been avoided.

Seat time is more important than any upgrade you can buy... experience is what turns good drivers into great drivers.

You guys are right. I have ridden with my friend and his dad, and he probably couldn't handle an RB or SR swap right out of the box. Also can you really get a 240 for well under $10,000 when we looked all we found were modified and $10,000+. What he wants is a 1994+ SE 5 speed, and it has to be under 50,000 miles. Those are his dads criterea. Those SR and RB swaps were hypothetical, they are expensive, if he gets a 240 he would just do some stuff to the KA. Finally I agree that a lot of teens with tuned or riced up cars usally try to impress girls ar their friends and wrap their cars around trees, poles, etc. but not all teen drivers are bad drivers, just mull that one over

You obviously haven't looked AT ALLLLL! You can get 240's for like 2000$, I think he wants a 1995+ (S14) not 1994+ because 1994's were all automatic convertibles. If his dad is choosing the car, why doesn't he tell him that he wants to pic his own car? Oh that's right, because this dumbass kid doesn't want to get cut off from his trust fund. And he wouldn'T know where to start "doing stuff" to the KA.

what car do u own?
