Ricer IMO does not only apply to Civics. Any car can be labeled a ricer. Here is what I think.

- metal ghetto wings that are bolted on to any car that doesn't need it.

- Big fart pipe muffler serving no purpose but to annoy other drivers.

- Body kits that are not done right or still coated with primer.

- A bunch of stickers that don't relate to anything done to the car.

- Fake air vents that are applied by double stick tape....lame!!

- Pretty much, most things that aren't even effective or functional, and just look stupid.

- A bunch of neons all over the car.

I see just many "riced" domestic cavies, as I do civics. So please don't refer to a ricer as only a civic. Cause they are in every breed! hehe

Yea I do understand what you mean by their mentality. But some of these generalizations are often a direct result from their mentality. A car that was done right internally and externally is what makes the difference. Come on now! Wheres your sense of humor! I'm sure you even see some cars on the road that just make you think........jez, your joking right? . In no way am I insulting their intelligence, only their common sense!! :lol2:

Here's a term loosely thrown around nowadays. "ohhh, rice boy!!", people hear that a lot nowadays...and mostly it's coming from me :p Let me attempt to put my opinion across as what the difference really is between a ricer and someone who modifies their car well.

Most people will see a Hyundai Excel with a 5inch exhaust and instantly think: what a rice boy. Don't be so quick to judge! Because money constraints have never been, and should never be the issue under consideration when throwing this term around. Every person has different financial circumstances and will inevitably have different choices to make. So each unto their own in how they wish to spend their money.

The difference is the mind state of the person. A ricer will inevitably only think about the end result and how much bling they can get. Bling can relate to show as well as go modifications. Whereas a non-ricer will think about all the inbetween stages as well.

A good example is nitrous kits. Ricers tend to go for these because they offer the best power gain at the lowest cost. Also a ricer will refer to it as NAAWWWWZZZ. (Which is wrong, btw. NOS, stands for Nitrous Oxide Systems and is a company that makes nitrous oxide kits and were popular about 10 years ago because they sponsored so many events. This inevitably lead people to just refer to nitrous as NOS, just as people refer to tissues as a kleenex. But nowadays, there are about 5-10 companies that make just as good if not better kits than NOS.) So if the person refers to it as nawwz, chances are they're a ricer. But back to the point! This is not to say a non-ricer won't use NOS. The difference is, and here's the key, is that whilst a ricer will put in a nitrous kit and start spraying asap, a real car expert will think about other things. They will first have their engine internals strengthened, (assuming we are talking about serious nitrous shots), they will reinforce the transmission, clutch, drive shaft, chassis etc. You get the point! They will follow through their whole car from the start i.e. where the nitrous enters into the engine, right to the tyres and think about what needs to be done as to do it properly. This is the downfall of ricers. I heard about some guy who put a nitrous kit on his SP23 and shooting for 3 months, he had some gear problems and found that his thrid gear's teeth had been totally ripped clean. A non-ricer would have gotten a new transmission beforehand...no use strengthening cos the mazda3's transmission is weak as piss :evillol:.

Other "ricers" will be labelled on people who have all kinds of Nismo, G-Reddy and Mugen stickers on their Suzuki....wrong! If you have stickers advertising companies you don't use the parts of, you're a fucking idiot, not a ricer! (just like those who wear shitty clothes with giant "Tommy Hilfiger" logo across their whole chest, you're advertising for them dumbass! they should pay you to wear that crap!:cwm27:).

I personally don't see the point of making the exterior of your car looking like hot shit when it runs 1/4miles in 45s, but each unto their own! But if it's tasteless, sorry, you're a ricer. That's why people with neons on their lancers are ricers, cos it's tasteless, it might look good in a movie...but that's cos it's a movie! A movie can make Jessica Simpson look smart! Think about it!

On a last note, not every fan of "2 fast 2 queer" is a riceboy. Most people like that movie because of what it's about, not because it's done well. I mean, come on, paul walker doing a 180 on a freeway and cruising for a good few hundred metres before spinnning back around....i know evo's are fast, but in reverse too?? Sheeit

If i've offended you, chances are, you're a ricer, stop trying to race me, i know you'll win...for now....http://www.xanga.com/Images/cool.gif

Ricer: Hey, does anyone know how paul walker got to get the sprays of smoke coming out of the side of his skyline at the start of the movie?
Non-Ricer: You sure it was smoke? Cos all i saw was grains of rice

I've posted this (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ricer&r=f) just about everytime I see a topic about wanting to define ricer.

I think my problem with the general sport-import crowd is that someone told them that those cars are fast and they believed it without actually researching it. I actually had a fake EVO try to race me the other day while I was on my friend's Hyabusa 1300. Hmmm.. me: 0-60 in 2.3 with my front wheel in the air. him: 0-60 in 12 seconds with a hot clutch.

When I was young, I liked what I liked and it didn't matter; just like today's young crowd. I can respect that, but when they start thinking that their car is the absolute best at everything without knowing the facts behind it, that to me is a ricer. I have six cars. Only three run, but they all serve a purpose. I know every one of their strengths and weaknesses, and I don't race people when I'm in my 86-hp 1965 IH scout. Its a rock crawler with a four cylinder, not a race car.

I do appreciate the specific output those small engines make, but the fact remains that the same thing can happen with our big V8s. We choose not to most of the time because it hurts streetability and if we all got 100hp/L, I'd have a few 800-hp cars :) I view them much like I view SUVs. Take a vehicle that is designed for a certain purpose, then completely re-configure it for an application it was not intended to serve. I don't mind that (in fact I do it myself with some of my cars) but it has to be done right. I have a friend-of-a-friend who has an Integra R and he spent massive amounts of money adding a turbo, intercooler, custom suspension parts, and since he owns a machine shop it is all unique and well-designed stuff. Unlike most of the cookie-cutter stuff kids buy these days. The net result is a very powerful car with a very understated appearance. He runs low 12s (which is very respectable for FWD) so he's on par with a slightly modified camaro. The car looks fast because I know he chose the wheels for their light weight, not their bling. He chose not to put a wing on because at it would add the improper downforce for what he's doing.

I define trash as a person who assigns too much value (either financial or personal) to an item that is not worthy of it.

I define a ricer as a person who ignorantly ascribes greater performance value to his/her car than is actually there. I'm all about looking good, and the sport import crowd has every right to make their cars look good in the way they wish, but just be honest about what's under the hood. Don't buy parts you don't need to make it look like its a better car.

Its a form of ignorance... and I don't mean that in a bad way. It comes from just not knowing the truth about cars and how they work. I turned 16 in 1989 and my first car was an 83 Celebrity. With the exception of swapping hubcaps from a Buick to get wire spokes, I didn't waste my time on it. I did try flipping the air cleaner cover to get more power out of the 2.8 V6 :) My next car was a 91 Beretta GT. Although worthy of some modding, I didn't. It was a front-drive V6 car. I saved up for some good 6x9s and 6.5" speakers so I could have some good sound quality music. Of course by that time, I was so passionate about cars that I couldn't learn enough, so I knew that putting all that money into a Celebrity or Beretta would be somewhat of a waste.

I had another picture from this same site but I can't find it now. It was totally politically incorrect and it said, "Racing a Honda is like being in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded."

 :grinno: too funny guys, too funny.
I definently agree about it being an attitude thing. I proudly drive a Civic, and laugh at other Civic ricers just about every day; as well as other import and domestic rice. How can you not laugh at huge mufflers and tons of stickers? I was driving behind this one guy in a Honda Accord a few months ago, and what do I see? A Type R emblem on the back. First off there never was a Type R (as some probably could have guessed) and the car was left hand drive. It's just amazing what some people do with their cars.

Things like a metal wing that stands a foot tall and sticks out 6 inches on each side, and a fart tube, cheesy decals, a 10,000 RPM 8 inch tach on the dash of an automatic that redlines at 5000, those are straight up RICE. NO car should have those stupid humongous bolt on wings. those are dumb looking. A friend told me it helps cornering (on his FWD), but probably because it weighs so much. It would have the same effect if it was in the trunk. I personally am a fan of neons, and I had them before the fast and the furious came out. I enjoy them, I like having a bad ass stereo, and a nice light set up. I love music, thats why I got the neons in the first place, so I could set them up to beat to the bass, and I really like it, and so do the people that ride in my car. Its entertaining. Its not so I can look cool, I just really enjoy them because it makes a fun atmosphere. But if youve got a fat spoiler and a fart tube and decals you dont ride around like.. "YEAH!! we got a fat spoiler and decals and a fart tube, this is awesome!!!"... that stuff is just for looks... stupid ones I might add.

Your totally right ricer is a mentality, but I is directly related to the Bookshelf wings, and coffee cans. Yes there are also neon, corolla, prizm, cavalier, protege, etc ricers, but 4 out of 5 time its a civic.

Ricer: It's a derogatory term used by some of us who would elevate our own status at the expense of those who choose to drive import (Asian) cars with a bunch of fake junk designed to make them look fast. Just my opinion.

HighRev87

Whaaat?!? I would not elevate my staus over a person who drives an asian car....I dont think people realize not all japanese cars are slow, unfortunatly the cars that are slow give them the bad name.

CivicSpoon

Yeah but even a slow car can be made fast. And I don't mean putting a coffee can muffler or simple I/H/E either. I'll give the example of my car. I own a '94 Civic CX; which means it came with a stock 70hp motor (yes I infact said 70hp), but it also weights 2044lbs. So like most people (at least most people on the Honda/Acura forums) I'm going to do an engine swap and turbo. When all is said and done I plan to have around 300 fwd whp. Now with that setup it'd be possible for me to pull mid 12's. Now to me that's not all that bad for a car that was once a slow POS. Will I be able to hang with the faster muscle cars? No of course not, but you've got to admit that's pretty decent for a car that I'll spend a total of $10-11G's or less on (including the $2,000 I spent to buy the car). It's just unfortunate that some people choose to spend that kind of $ on making the car look "good" and brag about how fast it is, when you're pulling high 15's or 16's in the ¼ mile. You'll never see stickers, naws, 18's, altezzas, or a big wing on my car; that's for sure. And even if I do infact hit 12's, I certainly won't be "bragging" about how "fast" my car is. Ricer is all about attitude and lack of knowledge.

HighRev87

naws
Not sure if you were refering to stickers with the Naws comment, but actually I dont consider spray to be rice at all, It actually is a really cheap huge power adder. There are some well build muscle engines that take huge sprays and make low times, I wouldnt say all emphasis to spray is rice

Btw: I love to see a civic owner who knows wtf he is talking about, and believe me, if you hit 12s, no one would be dissing your car.

CivicSpoon

Oh yeah there's nothing wrong with N2O if you know how to use it. I've personally seen an know people who have used it without having a clue and the just destroy their motor. But when used right, it's definently the best bang for your buck power wise. Mostly I just ment the naws comment because some many people call it that (or nos) when it's really Nitrous Oxide and NOS is a company name. It's more of just mark of a ricer when they call it the wrong name. It shows they don't know enough about it yet want to use it.

Thank you I appreciate you comments. There are many of us who share the same thoughts as I do. WE're slowly working of the rest :D

Ricer is definately a mentality, not a car. I've seen cars that looked like total POSs (unpainted body kits, shit ball black dount spares in replacement of real wheels, and what looked like a fart can, gigantic wing) run low 13s with out nitrous at the track. It may look like shit, but the guy who drove it was cool, and he was far from a ricer. Someone said that he saw a Accord with a Type R badge, but it was left hand drive. What hand drive do you think the US Spec Teg Type R is? And for all you know, he may have dropped in the Type R motor out of a Teg Type R.

You cant just saysomething is a ricer becuase the kid as a fart can on his civic. Talk to the kid, find out more about it. Maybe he cant afford a full exhaust or anything like that. Most of that stuff is not cheap. Hell cheapest exhaust I've been able to find for my car is 600+.

Like it has been said, Rice is a mentality, and has nothing to do with the car. Rice->attitude.
