black plastic below bumper....remove it??????????

what is the funtion of the black plastic air dam below my bumper on my 90 1/2 ton.mine is all cracked and i removed it.was that a big no no to remove it?what is its function.what are the conciquences if it is removed?I live in a very cold climate in saskatchewan canada.

theres no reason for it, its jus a style and an air dam, some people like it some people dont no big deal.

The purpose of the air dam, and its many variations of style, is to decrease and reroute the "oncoming air" while driving. It mainly decreases airflow and turbulence underneath the vehicle, which helps in highway stability and performance. However, if ground clearance is more of an issue, it will not make a significant decrease in handling or the sort.

Its also there to help with air flow to the rad.

I have heard of some cars over heating with out the air dam isntalled... But if ur temp gage is ok...go for it

The cars that overheat from no air dam are mainly the pointy-front ones that barely have an opening for the radiator (Ford Probe especially). You should be fine with any truck... I took mine off my S-10 after it was damaged, and my 86 Silverado never had one on it.
