GST Hardtop or drop top?

ok i searched and didnt get a clear answer on the differences between the covertible gst and the spyder gst, other thant the obvious top and the trunk. do they both run the same times in the quarter mile? or is the spyder heavier? I really want a convertible but also want to know if ill get the same results when i start modding as if would get on a hard top.

weight would definaly play a part... the times would slow but only marginaly... a few mods would get u right back up to normal :) i would say go for it just for the added coolness of a convertable

Well, to answer your question about the weight difference the answer is yes, the spyder is heavier. I dont know how much heavier, but you can go to autos.msn.com to see the weights. To see the stock track times, do a seach in this forum that has the title "Stock Times". I posted the thread a while back for a useful guide for people wanting to get a comparison of the stock quarter mile runs. Hope this helps.

yeah, but in my opinion, if your going to get a hard top GS-T, mite as well go for the GSX, cuz a Spyder GS-T would be a nice ass hell ride and it would have the power to show its looks off, well, thats me tho. and yeah, the Gs-T Spyder is heavier than the hard top.

Spyders are heavier, and their tops leak like hell. Just as Vince if he enjoys having his car when it's raining....between the 300 hp fwd and the drop top, it can't be fun in the rain :p

Yea the spyders do leak a bit. I have a 99 GST Spyder , but I have noticed that with a top replacement my top doesnt leak at all anymore. I replaced my top about a month ago and I havent had a single leak yet.

But you know what does suck? We had our first snow of the year here in Jersey lastnight.(It was bearly anything) But my door froze shut and my door handle broke off in my hand about 1hr ago.

If I remember correctly the Spyders are about 70 lbs heavier than the hardtops. After intake, DP & Hi-Flow cat, I was running about 1 car length faster than my buddies hardtop (at about 80 mph). So like legion said....It doesn't take much to catch up.

we are a bit heavier and closer to the GSX weight. but i think that we may have a bit less wheel hop issues than hardtops. one of my bro's got it bad in his hardtop, far worse than i ever had it.

we [spyders] have the GSX chassis for added support because of the rigidity lost to not having a top. that means we can do a bolt on GSX conversion. just get the tranny back from a trashed GSX and you are in business. but you do have to get a roll cage so you will not twist into a pretzel. and if you want to run on any track in CA you have to get a roll cage.

the gears on the motor for the top are made of plastic and will strip after prolonged use.

weather stripping is usualy trashed.

back seat and trunk is smaller than you can imagine.

other than that it is the shit. take the badges off and people will ask you what kind of car it is. at least they do for me.

hey, has anyone ever tried like a hard top conversion, i mean like, you can take off the hard top instead of having a "convertable" top. Like...the ones the S2000s..not sure if they do, but i mean like another hard top you can take off instead of waiting your head to be covered by that plastic.

I think it also all depends on where you live. If you live where it doesnt rain much i would go with the drop top, but if it rain go with the hard top. I would personaly go with the hard top since i really dont like convertibles. Dont get me wrong, i think they look bad ass, but they are not for me (I feel too vulnerable).

I live in cali. Rain over here is not bad. So im still kind of thinking about it. theres a green 96 gsx for sale that i can get, but i want a gst. im just gonna play on the freeway and from a roll most likely if i do want to race someone. and i really want a 97-99 so im just gonna wait for one.

hahaha...i mean like instead of waiting for the thing that goes over your head in your convertible...(shit, my bad if i dont make sense) i mean like, a hard top you can install without waiting for the plastic thing to cover your interior

Im sorry I must be either tired or having a blonde moment. But Your throwing me off when you say "Plastic Thing" Are you talking about the top? The top is made of Canvas not plastic. And my top opens and closes very quickly. I would say fully opens and closes in less then 10 seconds. So "waiting" isnt a problem.

hahahah...yeah, the canvas. I mean, jus for the hell of it, has anyone ever tried to un-install the canvass and customize a hardtop that you can optionally put on or off the eclipse? i've seen some1 do the t-tops eclipse, but has anyone tried what i said?...thanks.
