tiptronic question

hey im new to the forums
this is my first post, but i have been reading the threads for a few weeks now.
I am getting my first car and i have decided on the a4 but i cant figure out between manual or auto. I need some help figuring what the tiptronic +/- shift thing really does on the automatic. thx

..it just allows you to go through the gears 'manually'..but by no means is it as good as a true manual..

so with the tiptronic its not as good as manual but its the next best thing? b/c i dont want to have to deal with manual all the time but i know there will be times when i race friends or whatever and i will have wished that i had manual.

yup..you got it.. and giac makes a tip chip that really tightens up the shifts.. b/c stock, there's a bit of a delay.

I Wish I had a manual. I get so bored with that tiptronic thing till I just leave it in drive. Also, if you redline it, it'll automatically upshift for you. Unlike some other cars available with that tiptronic that will bounce of the rev limiter until you manually upshift or put the shift lever back in drive.

I have heard that on the tiptronic you could have a stall speed (1700rpm) where if you slam on the gas it will not go until you put it in first for a better launch. Is this correct?

Well, with mine if I'm driving in 3rd gear (tiptronic setup) and I floor the gas, it'll automatically downshift into 1st.
