Starting troubles (not turning over)

Hey guys, I have a '00 Intrigue thats developed a weird problem. Ocasionally, it just won't start. It happens more frequently when it rains, but it will also do it when it's totally dry, hot or cold. All the lights and accessories work, it just won't turn over.
It will eventually start, and runs fine, but when it finally does the "Service Engine" light comes on.
Other times it will start first try and the light never comes on.
It's a good battery and the connections are clean and tight.
Any tips here guys?

The first tip is to pull the codes and see what the computer thinks is the problem. It knows a lot more about what is going on under your hood than we do.

The codes I'm getting form the computer are Cam and crank position circuit errors. I'm assuming that those are casue d by the engine not turning over when it's supposed to, as opposed to being the cause of the problem.

Don't be so sure. The crank position sensor tells the computer when to fire the spark plugs.

The crank position sensor is a known problem on this engine. Dig through the archives as this has been discussed in the past. See if your code matches the same that others have seen.

Did you get a resolution to your problem? I am starting to have the same problem. Like you, I don't think the codes are an indication of the problem but a result of the engine not turning over and the sensors saying.."I don't see the CPS...must be a problem." I have seen where people have replaced the starter, key switch and still no luck. I don't want to start replacing parts without some diagnostics to back it up. Any help?
