It brings out the annoying in people.
Carollers carolling, shut up.
People wishing me a Merry Christmas, shut up.
People gridlocking the road the mall (that I want to pass by completely) is on, die.
Santa myth, go away.
People cluttering every store and making me wait in line for 5 hours to buy myself a magazine, die.
Christmas lights, stop distracting drivers around me who, as a result, are nearly crashing into me.
Christmas music, why must you be so cheerily annoying?
Gifts? Nice to get, but I spend just as much having to buy gifts for others (that they likely don't even want) as I receive, so I would rather just keep the money and buy myself what I'd rather have.
I could go on. But for now, I'll just say "hmmmf."

I realised how much I hated Christmas when I went looking for some Nuetral christmas cards to give work mates etc. Most of those sappy Christmas messages wanted to make me puke. This was about 5 years ago and to this day and ever since it's pissed me off more, I especially hate Christmas carols. I like the gifts, I like the food, I like the time off, but I have no family over here (Other than 'er indoors) and the point of Christmas is just lost.

Christmas is a time for profit for the major companies. It was manufactured by toy companies a hundred years ago to made money by coming up with a concept that gave people a reason to buy, and not just a reason, a feeling of obligation, and guilt if they didn't.
That's all.
I'm taking advantage of this, and I'm getting a lot of shit for free.

I used to hate x-mas until I became a father. I see how happy it makes my son to open presents on x-mas day and that makes me fell good that I can provide for my son and spend time with him...
I know most ppl think xmas is just a bunch of bs BS but I enjoy it as I don't get to see my family much and I make it a special occasion just to be with people I love.

I agree that Christmes is a huge guilt trip. Be strong, don't let yourself be manipulated by retailers, and enjoy the parts of it you like. Myself, I enjoy the food, the smiles of the kids, and just shine on the goofy adults that I only see once a year. It only lasts for a little while.

I guess more than anything I just hate the big commercial build up of it all, and I hate feeling the need to have to celebrate. I do enjoy the food though :D
As for getting free stuff, I end up spending just about as much as I get so I can't really call it free. :(

i don't care for x-mas as well, in fact luckily my whole family doesn't either. This year since 2 of us just lost our jobs, and we're too lazy to shop, we made a pact not to get each other anything and instead just have a nice christmas dinner. It will give us a break this year and will make next years that much better

X-Mas is sooooo stressful....a lot of work! And inevitably I have to go to the mall (I :disappoin HATE :disappoin malls).
It is the 'people' that makes it even worse. There are store clerks who are more rude and less than helpful, when it should be just the adverse. But it's the other shoppers :loser: who are just horrid! To see that kind of selfishness and greed, etc., lack of concern for others...just plain old meaness! You think people would be nicer around the holidays?
Other thing I hate is holding off on buy stuff for my son until X-Mas because I can't afford to do both. Poor guy can't get anything but clothes and essentials unless it's for his birthday or for X-Mas. If it wasn't for X-Mas, I could buy things when he wants them at other times of the year.
So he'll get his Red Sox World Series stuff (I got him all of it) but not until X-Mas. In retrospect...I should have at least given him the championship shirt when I got it - was the first thing I got delivered from the order. Next time - not going to wait my kid wait for this stuff!

Christmas is the day when 30-40 of my closest relatives come over to my parents house and we share what I would argue is the most magnificent feast any human being has ever eaten in history. Lol even though most of the day I’m down in the basement with my cousins drinking out of my fridge that’s loaded to the tits with beer, it still gives me the best vibes knowing my whole family is upstairs and together under one roof. Then there’s the whole advent side to Christmas that makes me feel really good in the heart. Its tradition that’s most important to me, Christmas Eve dinner at my uncle Stan’s house (the only Christmas Eve setting I’ve ever known in my life), midnight mass, X-mas day at my parents house for the umpteenth year in a row… plus now some of the older cousins have little kids so its great seeing the little bastards running around being loud, breaking shit – just like me and my cousins were when we were little fuckers! I guess I get a bit sad knowing that things won’t be like this forever, but that’s what makes me enjoy it even more each year.
I know Christmas can be a difficult time for some. When one of my grandmothers passed away 10+ years ago on Dec. 22 it was a total shock and really changed things during Christmas, forever actually. But life goes on, and that’s what it’s all about – family and friends, together and sharing a meal. Really nothing more important in life that that.
I could care less about getting presents - buying them can be difficult but besides the girlfriend I don't really shop for anyone else (besides small little things, and toys for my nephew). Whats so different about Christmas advertising? We're bombarded by marketing bullshit year round so why get suddenly depressed when it turns red & green?? :grinno: HA, and you guys are complaining about Christmas songs!? Try having POLKA Christmas tunes blaring throughout your house non-stop the entire week leading up to Christmas…
Happy Holidays

You know I think that just helped me figure out why I hate it so much. The main thing that makes me happy is seeing and/or making other people happy. Christmas day, itself, I actually enjoy, since everyone is happy. It's just that it inflicts mass grumpiness on the majority of the population for 1, even 2 whole months, making me miserable for the same.

Bah Humbug to all,
Christmas/Hannakuh/Kwanza etc is a time for joy and reflection of whats good in each and every one of us.
Unfortunently it has been lost in translation for eons. Regardless of your religous upbringing, most have commercialized it to the point of no return. The true meaning is lost and its not until that actual day that we see the joys and shiny brightness in the youngsters eyes opening those presents.
We are a society that wants more, and as such, the actual belief of "its better to give than recieve" is no more. If one does not get something after giving, we get mad, upset, depressed etc. Plus, the gifts keep getting more expensive each and every year, we go into debt because of it and just getting the gifts itself is a mind boggling ordeal.
I on the other hand, just do my xmas shopping either on the net or better yet after christmas. And give the gifts out on Three Kings day, Jan 6th. Not only do I ease the tension of holiday traffic/fights and long lines I get the discounted prices as well.
So you all can expect your gift then and not a moment earlier. :p
and on that note, Ho Ho Ho.
TS out (getting a lawyer, after calling everyone a Ho)

I like the idea of Christmas, but like Heep don't like the traffic, obnoxious people, materialism, commercialism, advertising(starting in early October!!!) etc etc etc.
I'd much rather have some great family time than a bunch of presents in the mail.
TS, I think "ChristmaKwannukah" is what you were aiming for. :D
Why don't we just take the current calendar and make all the months 30 days. That would leave 7 extra days (8 in leap year) left over, with which we could celibrate "Yule". Everyone could celebrate in their own way, but we'd all have Yule off (with pay).
It would be a nice break between December and January.

I know how ya feel with your grandma. It still bothers the hell out of me even after 5 years without her. It happens to all the holidays and my birthday. Christmas is okay. It is when I get the big presents. One year my parent's got me a really nice and pretty expensive saddle. Unfortunately it was too small for my horse. Had to wait till June for my new one to come which was second choice to come and that fit so I was really happy. The sad part now is my mom spends getting my horse things then she does me. Its a HORSE. YES I love him and he is part of the family but just because he is a gelding(horse with no balls) not a stud(horse with balls) doesn't mean she can wussify him. He is a god dang cow horse for christ sake not some prissy little jumping horse. GRRRR. [/rant] but yeah christmas is christmas.
