does anyone know the location for the fuel pump relay on a '97 chevy blazer...blazer will only fire up if gas is dumped down carb....chances it is a relay or the pump itself???? thanks guys

1997 = Ignition switch in the steering column.

Do a search for 1997 ignition switch and you will find others that have had the same issues and this fixed it.

I am not talking about where the key goes in, I am talking about the small black box module.

the question was where is the relay. if it is like the 96 it is inside the glove box.

I know what the friggin question was.

The start problems are from the poor ignition switch which sends the signal to prime the pump.

All 1997s have this problem.

I don't need your clarification.

Yes you do.

On '97s, when the switch goes, the engine will not fire at all.

The problem above is a pump or relay problem.

Don't argue with me. The ignition switch going bad does not lead to a dead engine. It can lead to lots of problems.

This has been a solution from everything from no starting to transmission shifting issues when working in the 1997.

I have helped many people with this, so don't come in here and think you can lecture me on what the symptoms are.

Until you get a '97, don't make assumptioms you don't have experience with.

I wouldn't argue with you, and I wouldn't argue with my son who is older than you.

I'll advise you to look back through my posts on the switch itself, as well as the multitude posts of people who do have '97s, you'll see this thread is not related. If the switch is the problem, there's no power to the engine at all, it will not fire when gas is dumped down the TB.

What, you are older than me, that means you have some sort of power or something?

All I am saying to the thread stater is to check out the ignition switch which will become faulty and cause the fuel pump relay not to get the appropriate signal to initialse the pump.

Don't discredit my advice until is has been checked out, I am not saying you are wrong am I?

Hello,

Did you resolve the fuel pump problem? My wife's 1997 Blazer quit last night and I suspect the fuel pump may be the problem.

Wiggle the pink wire going to the black ignition switch module in the steering column and see if it will start right up.

Thanks for the info... I am having some problems with my 97 Blazer maybe you can help me diagnose:

1) About 50% of the time it will start normal (and strong) and the rest of the time it will take a while to kick over (3 turns or so)... and spudder for 2 compression strokes... and then run fine. Are we talking about a fuel pumb problem or poor ignition switch? (Whatever that is? ...And where are these located?)

2) I put fuel injector cleaner in the tank and at one point my transmission started to shift hard between 2nd & 3rd.... Then the engine light went on. It appeared to be a soft code that tripped a sensor in the transmission. So my question is, how does a fuel issue like adding a cleaner to the gas trip a code in the transmission? Could it have anything to do with the oxygen sensor, and if so is it the fron or back sensor which controls the transmission shifting?

Switch will cause transmission codes as well, I would definitely swap it out.

Sounds like you have found your problem.

Thanks for your reply. Can you clarify how to replace the ignition switch? I read in a previous reply that the switch is NOT the part you put your key into? Is it located in the glove box or somewhere else?

Also, if my problem is my fuel pump, I presume the pump is located in the gas tank. Is this true?

It is a black module in the steering column.

Do a seach for 1997 ignition switch and you will find the guide someone posted earlier.

I don't post for the fun of it.

This is a known issue with the 1997s and I am not going to have people chase after the unknown when we know what causes the problem in most cases.
