Recommended snow tires

Good morning. Well we've had some snow lately and I have to say that I am completely not impressed with the way my 99 4Runner handles it. I slide to every stop and the tires spin when I take off with the smallest amount of snow/ice on the road (in 4WD and not). I'm sure it's the tires so I was hoping someone could recommend snow tires for me. A colleague suggested Michelin Hydroedge. Any other ideas?
Thanks very much.

What part of the country do you live in?
How often do you drive on snow? How often is it hard pack snow or ice?
When it's not snowing how wet, how much rain?
All of these of course should be part of your decision.

I live in Ontario, Canada. I drive on the snow when it's there - maybe once a week in the winter, let's say. All different kinds of snow and various amounts of rain.

do you know if your 4runner has antilock brakes or not? cuase mine doesnt, so look into pumping your brakes, i have cooper discoverer A/t's and they work alright, just gotta watch yourself, make sure your giving yourself plenty of room to stop and might want to throw a sand bag in the back, i through a 70lber in mine and it helped alot, otherwize just dont drive to fast

Well we had a bunch more snow over the holidays and found out that it actually handles really well in deep snow. I guess it was just the greasy snow and ice that it wasn't the greatest at. And I definitely have had to slow down and make sure I start hitting the brakes a lot earlier than I do on dry pavement. I do have anti lock brakes which take some getting used as I'm used to pumping them myself, but they do work if I let them do the job themselves. Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll stick with the tires I've got for now and see how the rest of the winter goes.
