Sounds like your regulator is shot. Can be tricky to replace, as the spring is under extreme pressure. I'd take it to a local shop for replacement. Aftermarket should be fine, but I guess it depends on how long you plan on keeping your truck. Junkyard is also an option.

I have a 1999 Silverado 1500 2WD. I've had to replace both window regulators already......I bought the regulators from A1auto.com for $99/each, and a local shop replaced them for $150 for the labor. I had a stealership do it once, (the passenger side has went out twice now) and they charged me $400!!!

I just ordered both regulators/motors from A1auto.com as well ($99 each). They should be here today. I am going to attempt to install them myself. Wish me luck!

Its been a few months but I think there are only 4 bolts that hold the unit (if memory serves me) and a few places it clips into the door. Was not too difficult.

Looks like fun, right?

I'll take some photos of the work as I do it so I can post instructions for anyone else who ends up having to do the same work.

just changed my pass side power window mech was very easy. took from start to finish 40 mins. had no problems. bought mine on ebay a hell of alot cheaper than oem and parts stores. 49.95 plus 15 shipping. looks the same as oem. maybe a little heavier. lubed all the cable up. so we will see how long this one lasts.

Changed both of the ones on my wifes truck on Friday. There are only six bolts holding the regulator/motor on the door (and two bolts holding the glass to the regulator). They were very easy to change out. The photos I took came out too dark so I can't post them. If anyone needs step-by-step instructions I am more than willing to supply them.

Merry Christmas to All!

Marine,

about the pics. They do not show on my screen. In fact, can't hardly see any ones pics. Do I need to turn something on my computer system on/off? Anyone? Thanks

I just did my driver side, on my 00'. Took a total of 30 min. Pull off the upper trim piece by the mirror, the switch panel for the power windows, the insert around the the interior door . Remove the screw below the pull handle and the screw underneath the window switch panel. Once removed lift up on the door panel and pull away. Watch out for the lower light. Once door panel is off, peel away pastic. There are 5 10MM bolts holding the regulator in, plus the 2 holding the window. I, myself loosened the 2 screws holding the window and pushed the window all the way up, then I removed the regulator. Window did not move during this. Pulled out the regulator w/window motor. A little challenge to to mount the motor. But once done, install the regulator, temporally connect the window switches, power up, raise that window, once up, tighten clamps for the window. Turn off key, and reinstall door panel and components.

Thanks for the step by step bsilverado00. My window got stuck down and I'll have to take it apart. The step by step will be increadibly useful.
