you're probably at aroun 155-160 hp to the wheels. 190 is at the crank.

97-98 put 195 with the 5 speed. 190 with the auto
99-01 had 200 with the 5 speed, 195 with the auto.

you'll make 155-165, 160 whp is very typical for the h22a4.

crank hp doesn't mean anything. My jdm h22a is rated at 200 at the crank, just like the h22a4 (99-01) but stock I put down 175, 10 higher than most 5th gens. Now I should put down around 200 to the wheels, but I'll get the exact numbers in about a week!!!

the jdm h22a4 produces 220 at the crank stock. but 175 to the wheels on the jdm is about right figuring in a 20% drivetrain loss. i've been out of the loop on honda engines ever since i sold my honda so correct me if i'm wrong.

there is no such thing as a jdm h22a4. Jdm honda motors do not have numbers after them. for example the integra gsr is a b18c and the integra type r is a b18c as well. The only real way to tell the difference is the lsd tranny and the redline. The type s motor is the h22a8 and is rated at 220 to the crank not the a4. The a4 is 200 just like the obd1 jdm h22a that came out of 4th gens, and the h22a puts down 175 to the wheels while the a4 puts down 155-165 to the wheels. Either the US is bs ing us with the 200 crank hp on a4 or they just suck at getting power to the wheels. The american 4th gen vtec prelude is the h22a1 and is rated at 190 at the crank and puts down about the same as the a4 (155-165). The 1997-1998 5th gen preludes, (the first set of h22a4 motors made) were rated at 195 at the crank and then in 99 they bumped it up to 200, so they really dont know what they are talking about. They should leave the power rating to the japanese who make the motors instead of guessing a hp that will sell cars.

thanks everyone, so trying to reach 200 hp at the wheels would be a realistic goal?

Anything above 200whp might be a stretch if you stay n/a. Although, still realistic and attainable.

well if you stated that jdm engines dont have #'s after them yet you state that the Type S engine is the "h22a8" doesn't this contradict ur whole statement???

sorry i was being retarded, the h22a8 is the motor that comes in the accord euro R. The motor I was tryin to say is from a japanese prelude Type S, called a h22a because jdm motors do not have numbers after them, but it is the same motor that comes in the accord euro R. Rated at 220 crank hp. Sorry for the mistake.

The accord euro r comes with a blue top h22a8. I'm not very familiar with euro specs but I think that the a7 is the motor that comes in the regular vtec there. Type s has the red valve cover.
