Ok people,
I have a problem. My girl is getting a se-r spec v and she thinks just because she is getting it that she will be faster than me seeing she only getting it bc i wanted it. Ok first off is there a way to beat her with a stock sr20de engine seeing i can shift and she cant. People have told me that she will burn me but racing isnt really all about hp its also about how u shift as well.
Anyways now to the hp issue. For around 1000 dollars can i modify my engine to kill her spec v. Ive been reading posts and thinking about a hotshot CAI and header. Exhaust wise i was thinking about the 5zigen fireball as well. Any advice to this please post here thanks peace

That would be a good start. And for $1k that will be about it unless you do your own installation.

She's got more horsepower, more torque, and less weight. You may very well be a better shifter, but unless she keeps it in first, you're toast.
May as well start learning to grovel now.
Repeat after me:
"Yes Dear. You're right, Dear. Can I drive your car, Dear?"
Just think of it as good practice for marriage. :)

Yeah thats sucks for you man. she's gonna kill you. Hotshot CAI and header will be good but not enough. THe stock exhaust system isn't that bad restritive wise so i buy some JWT cams instead of the exhaust

How much does the sentra weigh? I dont see how it can weigh less seein the motor is bigger and has a lot of extras like the fosgate system etc. And ive researched and seen that the with a hotshot header and cai it will add together around 18 20 whp. That will put me along side the spec v seein it produces only 140 whp. And then an exhaust will add another porb 2 to 3 whp. So i think with those mods i can take her with ease.

SE-R Spec V weight: 2746 lbs.
BTW, the 2.5 litre in the SE-R is produced using a different casting process and actually weighs slightly less than the SR20DE.
Cheers

ok the motor may weigh less now what about all the other stuff she has in like power windows and stuff like that, sunroof, spoiler, 17 inch rims. I just dont see how that car is that light with all these parts to it but i dont know so well see when she gets it. Anyways what are u talking about i need to take some physics classes bc if ur talking about the hp issue that all right.

For 1000$ you can build a decent nitrous setup.....but it might not be the route for you.
Then again, you only care about beating her right:)

Its not that big a deal to beat her bc eventually ill have a fster car than her. Just when she gets it she gonna think her car is the fastest. Ill prob end up in the future getting the sr20det and then well see who will win stock to stock. Thanks guys peace

Oh yea killick where do u come off sayin that ways 2743 when the stock se sentra weighs 2714. Ok lets see her ur tryin to say that the stock sentra weighs like 30lbs less then the spec v and the spec v has a bigger motor and bigger wheels right there that prob more than id say at least 1500lbs extra. Please post where u found ur figures from id really like to see them thanks

Um... let's see. I got my information from Nissan. Where'd you get yours?
Check the weight at the Nissan site if you want. They list the XE at 2548 and the GXE at 2593 (I'm assuming you're talking manual transmission). You'll find that the weight for the Spec-V is listed at 2771 lbs. Add another 100-150 lbs for the sunroof and speakers if you like. That published weight includes the wheels since they're standard equipment on the Spec-V.
http://www.nissandriven.com/vehicles/ModelSpecifications/0,9439,21551||,00.html
The weight I posted earlier (2746) was from the Nissan Canada site (maybe the equipment list is a little different up here, though it looks to be the same). Check it out too if you like at:
http://www.nissan.ca/eng/cars/sentra/speci.html
If you've done a lot of reading about the Spec-V as it was being introduced, you'd be aware that the new larger engine is lighter than the old 2.0 because the block is produced using a different casting process than before. The new die casting process (I believe... have to rummage through back issues to be sure of the name of the process) can produce to tighter tolerances than the sand casting process used for the SR20, so significant weight can be saved by reducing allowances for inaccuracies in the cast. I.e., less metal used in the block.
... and as for the extra 1500 lbs, do you really think that you can buy a Sentra, any Sentra, that weighs over 4200 lbs. C'mon man, talk some sense. That's the weight of a mid-70s Caddy!
Look, I'm not tryin' to get a war goin' here. You asked for input and it was offered. If the response isn't what you wanted, well ... sorry 'bout that. But I'm not gonna feed you bullshit just to massage your ego.
Fact is, she's gonna have a pretty quick car for something straight off the showroom floor.
1. It's very light (even with the sunroof and sound system).
2. It's got a strong motor. HP ain't what pushes you forward, it's torque. HP is just a calculated entity (But PLEASE don't make me go back to first-year engineering mechanics to explain this... it's been way too long). The 2.5 in the SE-R, while it won't scream up into high rpms, has a very strong torque curve. It's the area under the curve that counts, not the peak HP or peak torque value.
Good luck with your mods. They'll definitely help. Especially if you drop in that DET. :) That's one sure way of kickin' some Sentra ass.
Cheers.

SIGH....I was afraid someone wouldn't get that. Haven't you ever made fun of a car with a stupid name before?? I.E.: The Ford Exploder. (Referring to the tires/firestone incidents). For example my brother: His name is Todd, we call him ReTodd.
Expire is an appropriate name for the car when you consider how often they do (expire).
Don't worry, one day you'll have a sense of humor.
SHEESH.

I hate to say this, but she is going to take you, no matter how good of a driver you are. Once you get going (as long as she can at least shift) she's gonna get you in a stock G20. Spec V's are quick, they have a LOT of torque. It's going to take quite a few mods on your part to keep up, probably in the neighborhood of 145whp, maybe more or less, depending on the drivers. With equal drivers, I'd guess at least 145whp in your G20. On the track, with an equal driver, the stock Spec V's are VERY VERY VERY fast!!!! I'm seriously considering buying one, once i pay off my G20. I was sold this weekend at the SE-R Convention when I saw how fast some of the guys were able to drive their Spec V's. They put down about 140hp/150ft.lbs of torque stock. We put down about 120/120 in a SR20 car, maybe more or less depending on how well it's been kept up. Just Hotshot headers on a Spec V give it 11or so hp all across the board, and a tad more torque (i think). I know it pushed it over 150whp and 160torque. And it gained everywhere in the rev band... There is also a CAI out for them now too. WATCH OUT!
OH yeah, as far as weight, the lightest P10 is gonna weigh in slightly above 2700lbs (probably closer to 2750lbs, without driver and not much gas in the tank. That's without weight savings. So they are real close in weight. if you have a cloth interior, no power seats, no moonroof, etc... all that stuff adds weight to the G20, you might be looking as high as 2850 with all the options (w/o driver).
