Speeding Tickets

How much are speeding tickets where you live?

A little history: I live in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada and we have twin bridges that croos the St.Clair river going in the US. Every week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays there are transport trucks backed up at the bridge for kilometers (roughly a 1-2 hr wait to cross). Recently there have been truck drivers getting into accidents and killed because they are driving too fast and slamming into the back of parked transports. Because of this they have dropped the spped limit from 100km to 70km in hopes of slowing everyone down. But, no one has and they are giving speeding tickets. The average cost of a ticket here is about $100.00 / 10 km over.

135 in a 100 zone, $600-700 from memory.

52mph in a 35 (4 points)= $80 (+$50 for the class I had to take thanks to the plea bargain)
45mph in a 25 school zone (6 points) = $92 with court costs.

The costs dont reflect how serious they actually were. Well, the second one anyway. It was 6 points, and I now have a probationary license for 6.5 months.

The costs all depend on which county or area cop you get pulled over by.

I've got it pretty good in my town; it's not massive, just a suburb, but the town makes somthing to the tune of $2million in revenue from tickets. Unless you kill someone in an accident, any ticket, show up to the court, talk to the prosecutor for 30 seconds (seriously, I timed no more then 45sec) and they'll reduce your tickets to a parking violation. You pay a little more, but no points, no insurance increase, and the town gets to keep all of the money from the ticket, instead of giving it all to the state, as the case would be if it were a normal ticket. I got a ticket in August for rolling past a stop sign, showed up to court last month, told the prosecutor that I was sorry, and he reduced it to a parking violation. No points, insurance, and I only had to pay $100 U.S. Same applies to speeding tickets, though the fine increases slightly (I think around $125) Good country America.

145 km/h in a 100 km/h zone = $410.

Was driving the Skyline while passing a truck going downhill (and of course the truck sped up so i had to as well seen as i was already halfway past him).

I agree in that respect North Dakota is pretty sweet, but lately in Grand Forks there seems to be a lot of asshole cops out there. IDK what it is but they need to lighten up a bit. Don't know about speeding tickets, but my buddy Andrew got two tickets: $101 for exhibition driving and $101 for careless driving.....could be worse

yes tickets in wisconsin blow i used to live there actually i still have a wisconsin dl i got a ticket for 93 in a 65= 28 over which = 400 some odd dollar ticket it sucked. cops in wisconsin try to be hard asses the state patrol gave my mom a ticket in my car while she was in uniform(keep in mind my moms a federal cop) and made her sign the written warning for a car with out of state tags cuz i had clear turn signals, so my mom bitched at his boss for giving another cop a ticket while in uniform, you just dont do that.

i think when youre doing 180 in a 50 there's no real need to stop for the red and blue is there...

and 15km over in NZ, 80% of the time will be a warning, unless youre a dickhead with an attitude, or your car is a cop-magnet.

80 mph, hit the brakes around a curve in a truck, stupid me, brakes locked up, took out about 10 trees.

Got a ticket for wreckless driving, since my neighbor is a cop and knows the trooper that gave it to me, got it reduced to unsafe movements.

Courtcost, $100
Insuance, $3000 a year :grinyes:

I look at traffic cops as taxpayer-funded fund raisers for the insurance industry.

Well the 180 WAS caught, ages after, thought I was clear, let me off saying "If I was in a squad car and had to chase you there's no way I could have fucking caught you, so take the warning and bugger off home" and the two NZ fines were cameras, doesn't mean I paid them, or had to. Damn I love big comapnies. ;)

I'd disagree.
Sunday afternoon drive.Dry and sunny, visibilty excellent.
Standard vehicle
Brand new stretch of bolt straight road
No other vehicles in sight
15 km/h [10mph] over the limit
Cop comes over the brow of the hill 200m ahead with his radar on,
has his red and blues flashing before I can check the guage and lift my foot.
I'm pulled over and stopped several seconds before he reaches me.No attitude, family in the car

"You were going a bit fast there sir,I'll have to write you a ticket."
$80 fine. 2 hours overtime wasted because some cock in a blue hat thinks in terms of quota rather than road safety.

that your guilty until proven inoccent which is shit

Actually, I believe it's the opposite. You are innocent unless proven guilty otherwise in court, and I think that's part of the Miranda Rights. I'm not sure.

But in the norhteast, my parents told me the police really don't mind if you drive 5-10 mph over the limit.

haha have you ever been to court? the american justice system isnt exactly what its supposed to be. i have been a couple times and its DEFINATELY guilty until proven innocent. miranda rights dont mean dick in a court of law. you have to plead for your innocence. and if you dont have a lawyer whos friends w/ the judge youre basically screwed and youll get what youre tried for.

as far as the 5-10 over thing... most cops wont care about 5 mph over.. but there are definately a few asshole cops who will write a ticket in a heartbeat for 10 over.

Ahh yes another person who agrees with me that the american court system is corrupted and it is very true that your guilty until proven innocent. and i believe most people will agree with me they teach you in school that it is the other way around then you go through the court system and see how it really is

65mph in a 50mph zone = 2 points on the license for 3 years plus €80

It wouldnt have matter if I was doing 55 in a 50 its still the same penalty here. If you fight it and lose then you get 4 points plus the fine plus court costs.

I am not 100% sure but when you start doing crazy speeds like 100 in a 40 or 50 they just take your license. Also there has always been talk about a 10% allowance for speeding like getting away with 44 in a 40. Dont personally believe it to be honest.
