92 Camry Engine System Warning Light

Hello, during my drive in to work this morning the "Engine System Warning Light" (aka Check Engine Light) came on - while I was driving, not at a stop. The gauges all appeared to be normal; I didn't notice anything change and I made it to work okay.

However, yesterday during the drive home a noise suddenly appeared out of nowhere - it happened while I was accelerating. Kind of like a rattle or vibration, it's hard to describe but coming from under the car. The noise only happens when I accelerate. I take my foot off the gas, it goes away.

Car is a 1992 Camry 4-cyl. engine.

Any thoughts on this would be most welcome!

Read the codes. You have an OBD I system so you should be able to read the codes with a paper clip shorting 2 terminals in the diagnostic connector under the hood. Do a search on this forum for things like "check engine light" or "reading diagnostic codes" or "OBD I codes" and you should be able to find the procedure. You can also get a Haynes or Chilton's manual that covers your year and it should show you how to do it. Then report back here with the codes and someone will be able to help you.
